When I was young in Mastic Beach, we spent Saturday mornings on the porch eating pancakes made by mom and naming all the birds that flew by. From smelling the salty waters by the Florida Keys, seeing all of the green from the stems of green beans growing, the flavor of the freshest eggs you could get from the coop in the backyard, to the avocado tree growing in the backyard, my trip to Florida had become one of the greatest life experiences I’ve had yet. Visiting Florida taught me many skills on being independent, mentally, and how easy and fun it is just to be to yourself sometimes. It all started Christmas eve when I got home to find my presents from “Santa” there before we even went to bed. My parents had planned on taking a vacation to Florida for Christmas break to see my grandparents, but we were unable to also get my parents there.…

As I made my way from the summer shade and onto the sandy yet firm rocks, I felt the reflexes in my naked feet being stimulated by each carelessly landed rock; nature's reflexology therapy. The smell of freshly blossomed flowers mixed with the aroma of sun-dried seaweed and salt in the air was exhilarating. I focus ahead to the sulfuric sand that awaits me, knowing fully well that I am about to sprint like Usain Bolt across its hot fine crystals and make my way to the welcoming bubbles and foam that await me. Getting my feet wet in this cold water was hydrotherapy at is best.…
