Personal Narrative: My Trip To Isla Mujeres And Tulum In Mexico

Decent Essays
Slide 1: The first highlight of my summer was going to Isla Mujeres and Tulum in Mexico as my family and I’s yearly trip to somewhere in the world. I went with my mom Mari, my dad Humberto, my sister Anais, and I Celine. We have been to Isla Mujeres many many times before so we always try to do our same traditions that we have been doing since the beginning such as going to the Turtle Farm and getting there on golf cart and then buying rotisserie chicken and beans, soup, and spaghetti in bags and eating it on the beach. Another tradition that we did was go to my parents church that they got married in to see how much it has changed. A Lot of the time we went to the beach and either brought our own food or bought some from the restaurants along

Hernando Cortez was originally from Cuba but he explored Mexico (Central America). He was born into an upper class family, though his parents were not extremely wealthy. His father was Martín Cortez de Monroy and his mother was Catalina Pizarro Altamirano. Through his mother, Hernando was the second cousin to Francisco Pizarro, who conquered the Incan empire in modern-day Peru. In 1506, for his participation in the conquest of Hispaniola and Cuba, Cortez was granted a large estate as well as some native slaves.…

Jim swore our family could live cheaper and he’d never shovel snow again when we sold everything in rural Colorado to move aboard our sailboat in Mexico. When we sailed into Baja Sur’s capital city, La Paz, its unexpected “small town” peacefulness surrounded by the coastal beauty of the Sea of Cortez charmed us into staying. We landed a house-sitting gig by word-of-mouth and enrolled our 12-year-old daughter in a Mexican public school to learn Spanish. A two-day drive from the California border through saguaro and organ pipe cactus gardens, and only 1½ hours north of Cabo San Lucas, La Paz sits like a pearl where the Sonoran desert sand meets the glimmer of the Gulf of California.…

If you were to look in my room you’ll probably see a mess clothes all over the floor, papers on my bed, and tennis balls on my desk, you could say that I’m not the most organized person in the world. But upon looking at all that mess, there is a picture hanging on just one nail, collecting dust as if it was some kind of ancient artifact. As I look at it every morning before heading off to school I am instantly reminded of a trip that I now use to define who I am: commitment, compassion, and courage. This was the photo of my trip in Leon, Nicaragua.…

All my life I have wanted to go on a mission trip to help mentor those in need. So when the opportunity came to go to Jicamarca, Peru I was extremely excited to be a part of the team being shipped off. Before going to Peru we were put through a “special” type of training. During this training we were taught what we were going to be speaking about, a skit, and a ballet dance. So when we went to Peru we would be ready for anything, at least that’s what I thought.…

This March, my family and I took a trip to Mexico for vacation. We did many fun things down there such as; parasailing, went on a boat for a day trip, sail boating, went swimming in the ocean, buggy board, sand volleyball, swam in the pool, walked the beach at night, got henna tattoos, a dread in our hair and went to the club with my brother and Emerson. The sand on my feet, the crashing of the waves, people swimming in the ocean, the smell of sunscreen and the wonderful taste of my flamingo drink; Mexico is my kind of place to be. But the first day in particular sticks out to me the most, the day we went parasailing and sail boating. Waking up in the morning in your soft hotel comforter, gives you a great feeling.…

During the summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I realized I am Mexican. On one side of my family my grandparents are completely white but on the other side my grandparents are 100% Mexican. I grew up making tamales at Christmas and I learned about my culture. My grandparents who were born in Mexico came to the United States by walking across the border. I admired my grandparents’ strength and courage and they helped me understand the idea of The American Dream.…

I have experienced much grace through the trouble and poverty I have witnessed through my mission trips to Guatemala. I went to Guatemala June 9-16, 2014, and August 4-11, 2015 (and I plan on going back August 2016). Seeing the conditions these people live in daily, has helped me take to heart the kind of help they are in need of. Many of these people have no home, no family or no money to provide for their family, yet they are still thankful. Most of the time little boys and girls won’t have any shoes on their feet or their clothes will be far too small.…

It was an early Monday morning, I was pretty happy at the time because this trip was going to get me out of a full week of school. So, it all began at the airport, looking out of the window I could see our plane, It was a bit intimidating and I was really nervous because this was going to be my first time on a plane. Nevertheless, I had nothing to worry about though because soon enough I would come to realize that, the time I would be spending in Puerto Rico would teach me to truly enjoy the great experiences in life. So we were off, I could not wait to begin my adventure in Puerto Rico and meet all the amazing new people. When my grandmother and I landed in Puerto Rico I had no idea what I was in for, we planned the trip last minute and had no plans when we got there, or so that's what I anticipated.…
