Personal Narrative: My Trip To Illinois

Spring break 2017 was quite different this year than it has been in the past years. In the beginning of my spring break I didn't do much except for sleeping the whole day which was definitely needed! I also took my dog out in so many walks but unfortunately the weather wasn't so good. Not to mention, I had to do some SAT practice while I was in break which was horrible but I knew that it would help my score by at least two points. Moreover, I got to go to University of Illinois at Springfield, Western Illinois, Eastern and Illinois Wesleyan University. I am glad I got to go to this AVID trip because I was looking into University of Illinois at Springfield and I really didn't like the environment that I was in and It wasn't like I expected. I know that if i wouldn't have gone to this trip i would still be considering going to UIS. As can be seen, going to this trip saved me a lot of money because now I know that I should really look into the environment that every school is located in. …show more content…
Aside from the universities i had a lot of fun just hanging out in the hotel and we even got to go to starbucks and target. After I was back from the AVID trip I met up with a couple of friends and and went out for food. Just yesterday I took the SAT and a couple weeks ago I took the ACT. In my opinion I found the the SAT was a little bit easier than the ACT. Overall, I felt that I did good in the reading but not the math. If I could change something different I would focus more on the math portion than in the reading portion. Even though I took the SAT classes in school I still thought it was pretty hard. On the whole, I had a nice spring break aside from the fact that it ended so

Is the place you call home actually your ‘home’? In the story “Illinois” the author, Savannah Carpenter uses imagery, personification and point of view to develop and express the idea that at times, places, where you feel most accepted and belonged, may not be the place you call home. Carpenter sets the story in Illinois with the main character working as a bricklayer named Ken. Ken has been in the town his whole life and is accepted and loved by the town, even so, he always thought of the ocean. Ken deeply feels like he belongs along the shoreline, cruising down the reef fishing and relaxing on the side of the beach.…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

Wyoming, Illinois is a representation of a small farming community. It sits among acres of old, history filled corn, wheat and bean fields about thirty minutes from the “big” city. My first childhood home sat on a corner. The old home used to belong to my great grandparents, but was currently occupied by my mom, sister and two cats. I looked over to my mom, “Can I go to the grocery store?”…

During the summer, I enjoy going to the downtown area and watch the city come to life. There is always something to see or do during the summer months in the Chicago land area. Just exploring the lakefront by walking or riding a bike is exciting. To see so many people riding their bikes and running is enough to motivate anyone. The biggest problem I have is finding time to fit these activities into my schedule.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

I’ve lived my entire life in Indiana, as have my parents. My mom and dad were raised close to Monroe and went to Adams Central, where they met and fell in love. They ended up moving north to Fort Wayne where they had my sister and I. We began our schooling in FWCS, but we moved farther north to the tiny town of Huntertown later, which led to my sister and I switching to NACS for my high schooling and her middle and high schooling. Due to all of the events that have happened here in Indiana throughout my life, and due to most of my immediate family living in the area, I have a desire to continue living and working here.…
