Growing up in Hawaii, you're faced with multiple fun opportunities. For my self born in Kamuela of the Big island, being in the center of the island opened up many doors to many different activities. I grew up on a long narrow road that had many bumps and pot holes up and down the entire road. At the top of the road there was a small grade hill that I would bomb with a skateboard. My house was about three quarters the way down the road.…

I will give back to Hawaii by building connections with God in the communities and the cities of my home, not only with my two hands, but with my whole heart. I will also, donate to charities or to the churches enough money to help people in the community with their needs. I came to Hawaii from Marshall Island in May of 2011. I was only eleven years old at the time. I moved to Hawaii because my parents wanted me to have a better education which will help me get a job that can support my family and contribute to my country.…

My trip would begin with my husband coming home, bursting into my room like someone’s behind him with a chainsaw, waving plane tickets and yelling “Honey grab your things because we’re going to Hawaii”. Before he could say when we were going I’d already made mental notes of who would watch the kids and our family dog King. I didn’t need much time to figure out what to wear or if I needed to pack light or heavy. My mind racing, with ideas of how much fun this is going to be, I jumped up off of the bed and begin packing my luggage as well as the kids’.…

Hawaii, the home of white sand beaches, pro surfing, hula dances, and warm weather. If I could move to any region within the United States, I would move to Hawaii with no hesitation. Hawaii contains a prestigious hospital and the opportunity to become a surfer. Both of which of which I have always dreamed of being a part in. Nothing would make me happier than becoming an orthopedic surgeon operating out of a Hawaiian hospital working on shark attack victims and other unlucky victims who need orthopedic repair, then go straight to the beach to surf and relax for the remainder of the day.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

I don’t think most people look back at their near death experiences and laugh, but I can’t help myself. Normally alligators would be danger enough, but the tide had different ideas. I had invited my friends Xavier, Henry, and Harrison on vacation to Kiawah, South Carolina. I’ve been going to Kiawah Island my whole life and I know the ins and outs of the island, one of which is the end of the island.…

After Pacific Life I spoke with Oxford Life, which was my second choice. I thought both of the gentleman were very nice, they emphasized that they are looking mostly for someone who is a good fit with their existing group. They work with a small group of seven actuaries and are very close knit. They told me that their employee retention is very high and they both seemed to really enjoy working at their company and there was a nice easy dynamic between the two of them. They did not have any information out at their table and I left without receiving a business card.…

After anxiously waiting about fifteen minutes, our waiter arrived with three beautiful plates. He set down my plate exposing my eyes to three buttermilk pancakes perfectly placed together with a layer of fresh strawberries and a tower of fluffy whipped cream in the middle, sprinkled on top were small bits of nuts and powdered sugar. All I needed now was syrup but what syrup would I choose if there all sounded so good; From Original to Guava to Coconut to Honey Macadamia Nut to Honey Christmas Berry or Honey Rainbow Blossom. My older sister, a cousin, and I had decided we would be taking a summer trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.…

For my cultural excursion, I decided to think outside the box and really try to get out of my comfort zone. For my cultural excursion, I decided to go a day without food. On the morning of November 26th, I ate a fairly large breakfast and set out out on my excursion. That Sunday, I stayed home all day, stomach growling, wishing I had chosen something easier, like Korean barbeque. I didn’t give up, though.…

August 3, 2010: on this day I, a curious 11 year old who had never left the United States, boarded my Cathay Pacific flight from New York to Hong Kong. I had been waiting for this day to come since I found out about the trip 3 weeks before. My dad frequently traveled there for business and I had seen his pictures and videos of Hong Kong and had wanted to travel like him. Here was my opportunity. My dad had already flown down earlier on Sunday, so it was just my mom and I. I awoke from my restless night to my mom gently shaking me, and telling me to get ready.…
