In the islands of Hawaii, Hawaiians depended on the land, scavenging for resources to gather in order to survive. Hawaiians became accustomed to the landscape and began to learn how to farm to grow local plants, how to hunt, and fish from the local wildlife. Now days most “Hawaiians” spend time at home on their ipad or in front of their TV or computer screens. Even though there's the ocean to swim in, and the mountains to hike and relax, people still avoid this. Caught up in the fast pace lifestyle of businesses, they forget what's really out there.…

After anxiously waiting about fifteen minutes, our waiter arrived with three beautiful plates. He set down my plate exposing my eyes to three buttermilk pancakes perfectly placed together with a layer of fresh strawberries and a tower of fluffy whipped cream in the middle, sprinkled on top were small bits of nuts and powdered sugar. All I needed now was syrup but what syrup would I choose if there all sounded so good; From Original to Guava to Coconut to Honey Macadamia Nut to Honey Christmas Berry or Honey Rainbow Blossom. My older sister, a cousin, and I had decided we would be taking a summer trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.…

I expected Hawaii to be tropical paradise, but it’s not. My shack is very tiny and there are at least 1 million unknown creatures. I work 10 hour days, 6 days a week. The plantations are hot, dry, I have to cover up, and the Luna (overseer) is very disrespectful to me. My expectations were beyond not met because of the housing, unfair treatment, and horrible FOOD!…

The snow crunched beneath my feet as I walked onto the chairlift the wind howled and I shivered as the snow went down my back, the lift shuddered to life and started climbing up the face of the mountain, near the top I started strapping the Burton snowboard to my feet I turned to the right of me and saw two Swedish skiers who must have been on vacation it was odd because Sweden has a lot of snow so I asked them if they spoke English and they either couldn't hear me or didn't understand me and sat in silence I asked them again in Swedish, “de är spioner” They replied in a heavy accent “very little english we speak” I nodded to show them I understood. we made it to the top of the lift and got off I looked at the skiers and waved for them to go…
