Florida

During summer vacation, in the year 2011 my family and I went on a trip to Florida to meet up with some of our relatives. This was my first time ever going to Florida and I was really excited to go. But one of us had to stay home and take care of our pets, so my dad stayed home to take care of them. It took about half a day for us to get ready to go and like 4 or 5 hours until we were out of Michigan. My brothers and I would stay up all night to see how cool the city looked at night. We brought a dvd player with us so that we didn’t get bored out of our minds. The view of the cities at night was incredible. We went through six states including Florida. We also went through many cool cities like Atlanta, Nashville, Indianapolis, and

My favorite thing we did was go into the haunted house. We also rode a pirates of the caribbean ride and it was pitch black for half of the ride. My brother wanted to go the epcot center but we couldn’t and space mountain was shut down the whole day for maintenance. But that still wasn’t as bad as what happened later. Around 5:00 it started raining so we spent the rest of our time in a bakery waiting until my mom’s friends got back. We got some really good cinnamon rolls while we were waiting and they were amazing. When my mom’s friends finally got back we left. They started launching fireworks while we were on our way to leave the park. We watched them until we got back to the parking lot ,and all I heard was my little brother saying, woah! The day after we started packing up and getting ready to go back to Michigan. When we were about to leave a really bad storm hit us so we stayed another night in Florida. The power went out and it sucked because we couldn’t see anything and I was really hungry. When I looked out the window I saw a lot of trees shaking back and forth and my brothers could hear it. When the storm was over the next morning we left. My favorite part of the trip was either the view of the cities at night or when we went to

Florida is a land of sun palm trees and sand. Florida being a southern state with sweet tea, Publix, and Disney just a few hours away, had many perks. I had never thought of what it might be like to grow up in a northern area, or just even outside of Florida. Up until my 14th summer I had always assumed everyone lived the same way I did. It had all started when I got accepted to a summer program in Washington D.C to attend a medical forum.…

One of my roommates in college was gay. He confided in me about his sexual preference, knowing I’d respect his confidence. Back then, gay people were openly ridiculed and rejected and attacked. I wish I could say this was no longer true, but obviously I can’t. We’ve come a long way, but what happened in Orlando and the reaction to it provide harsh reminders of how people hate those who are different from them in some way.…

What started my love of swimming was when I was at a tender age of three my parents took me to Florida, I observed other kids taking swimming lessons and I decided to start swimming right then and there. On top of that, part of my old school’s curriculum was to have swimming once or twice a week. One of the many reasons why my parents and I moved to Florida was because of my love of swimming. Even though I started school with an exorbitant amount of homework, my parents and I swam at an olympic size pool religiously every Sunday.…

On that Christmas morning in 2011, I was given the best gift; it was an envelope with a plane ticket to visit my aunt down in West Palm Beach, Florida. I was only thirteen years old and this was going to be my first time going on a vacation without my parents. I would be flying down with my friend from work and we would go our separate ways once we arrived down in Florida. I could not wait for that day to come; it was exactly one month from Christmas Day. When that day finally came I could not sit still in class waiting for the school day to end so I could start heading to the airport.…

From smelling the salty waters by the Florida Keys, seeing all of the green from the stems of green beans growing, the flavor of the freshest eggs you could get from the coop in the backyard, to the avocado tree growing in the backyard, my trip to Florida had become one of the greatest life experiences I’ve had yet. Visiting Florida taught me many skills on being independent, mentally, and how easy and fun it is just to be to yourself sometimes. It all started Christmas eve when I got home to find my presents from “Santa” there before we even went to bed. My parents had planned on taking a vacation to Florida for Christmas break to see my grandparents, but we were unable to also get my parents there.…
