Personal Narrative: My Trip To Florida

Improved Essays
I had been to the beach before, many times in fact. My mother always believed that the ocean was where she belonged so I had been many times throughout my childhood. When I started living with my dad, and my stepmother Jennifer, the opportunity to visit the ocean was never a possibility due to no one ever wanting to go. I had begged to go to Florida for vacation every summer, but we always went to Ohio. The situation changed in the summer of 2015. Since my step sister, Cynthia would be graduating the next spring, she got to choose our vacation spot, and call it a senior trip. After some careful consideration, and input from everyone in the family, we decided to visit St.Croix. Once the realization hit that this was an island in the Caribbean, I started planning. This planning included many pins on Pinterest, and careful …show more content…
For example, we paddle boarded, used push boats, snorkeled, and climbed on the natural landscape around the beach. When paddle boarding, I was too chicken to stand up on the board. Instead, I was sitting on my knees, and had the worst workout of my life. I used every single weak muscle in my poor body to move forward, and it was shown the next morning. When we used Push boats, it was surprisingly pleasant, but we had to be careful of the waves dragging us away. The best activity was snorkeling partly because it was funny. We decided to snorkel for the first time, we all drank salt water at some point, and were scared of the seaweed getting us. When we got further out, I noticed something I did not expect to see. Little black spiked balls were on the seafloor, and I was just confused. It didn’t take long for all the nature documentaries I had previously watched to kick in. Poisonous Sea urchins covered the sea floor, I quickly screamed and of course ran for my life because they could most definitely chase me. Dad said he had never laughed harder in his life, and he had pictures to prove

I was sent to a hotel for a total of 10 days, alone with absolutely no one I knew. During this time period I had met numerous students between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. Each of these students had been from a different state, town or city. They each had different backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles, even diets. It was when I had actually started to talk to these people I had realized, I was not in Florida anymore.…

Destin Florida is my family’s favorite vacationing spot, its white sand beaches, blue green water, and beautiful ocean front condos always kept us coming back every year. The trip down to Destin was only supposed to take 12 hours, but it took us 15 due to my father’s inconvenient misreading of directions. As we finally crossed the bridge that led into Destin, waves of excitement filled each of us. Our condo was massive it was 16 stories high and only 50 yards away from the water. We all left our luggage in the car and ran to the elevator anxious to see what our condo looked like because my grandparents had kept from us what it looked like.…

The sand pits are a large horseshoe of sandy beaches and a calm lagoon off to the side of the main river. We choked the motor down to really soak in the settings. The hot, mid-day sun beat down on the water, causing it to glisten. There weren’t too many people here so the spot was silent, you could only hear the water lapping against the beach with the occasional slap of a bass shooting out of the water like a bullet, then slapping the water against its scales. We eased the boat onto an open spot on the beach and we hopped out of the back, me doing a dive and my dad doing a cannonball.…

Then once I got the hang of swimming and breathing properly my uncle took me out into the deeper ocean and seeing all the beautiful fish. I have seen fishes like the ones I saw on tv before but there is something about seeing it in person that really makes you appreciate what life has given you like the fishes. In person you get to notice the little details you do not get to see on a screen at home. For example like how every fish is unique in its own way from the pattern to how it swims.…

On a sunny and humid day one summer, I found myself in the Sunshine State, Florida. As I scanned for restroom signs on the side of the blistering asphalt, I turned from the safe, industriously spick-and-span interstate I was on, onto a narrow, unkempt, slightly muddy dirt road. The appearance of such a thing was surreal, this dirt road wasn’t carved out of the earth for tourism but it was a real path America’s ancestors had used. As I waded in the opposite direction of the freeway perfection, the charm of the road wore off. Its palette of colors included all sorts of mud-browns ranging from “a puddly day in the neighborhood with rainboots” to “the hole my dog dug in the backyard”, but also included more unpleasant notes like “splattering…

I’ve been visiting this adventurous island as a kid from just my earliest memories. In my time being here the place as well as myself has evolved, but the fun has always been there for me. There’s no doubt about it that I’ve spent some of the best summers of my life in wildwood. As a child I used to spend the majority of the summer on the island or at least visit for a week or two. My aunt has always owned a beach house in Cape May which wasn’t far from Wildwood at all.…

For an event so dramatic in my life, I still find it strange that I only vaguely remember it, especially because I could have lost my life that day. But I do recall that it was a clear, sunny day in one of the warmer months of 2011, and that I was still an energetic, ever-enthusiastic 10-year-old, much like an obnoxious, but adorable puppy. That day, I ventured to the beach at the aptly-named city of Oceanside, California with Carleigh, my 5-year-old little sister, and our dear old mother. She and I had been psyching ourselves up all week long before we left. What excited my sister was merely the chance to play with the family friends we were destined to meet up with, but I couldn’t wait to catch a ride the waves with my brand-new boogie board.…
