Personal Narrative: My Trip To Flint

Improved Essays
My trip to the Flint was fun. I did lots of things and learned lots of things. I got to play different games, play with water and sand, see myself on TV, and go through a tunnel. I also got the opportunity to learn some things about astronomy and astrological signs, map skills, and some history about the Flint. For example, I saw constellations and planets, I learned how to use contour lines on a map, and I learned about trolleys.
The movie that we watched, Microworld, had things that I found very interesting. For instance, I never knew that mosquitos started out as larvae underwater. I learned about different plants and animals that I never knew existed such as the Ancient whale and the Basillosaurus. The Ancient whale is an old whale that

As the powerful Colorado River churned beneath me, as it has for centuries, and the relentless sun peaked over the top of the North Rim, I could not help but feel astounded. I was in a timeless place: a place disconnected from the society I had left behind miles ago. Down here, in the lowest section of the Grand Canyon, it was just me, my friends, and the heat. Always the heat. We had started our journey, a run from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to the South Rim, at 4 AM in a futile attempt to avoid the skyrocketing temperature and finish before the sun became the determining factor in the success of our venture.…

President Barack Obama once said “When all American are treated as equal, no matter who they are or who they love, we are all more free.” As a Hispanic LGBTQ American, these words resonated with me. In my exposure to a plethora of cultures, in my personal experience and academic career, I have had the privilege to understand and further appreciate many lifestyles. Through these experiences, my mission: to serve toward compassion and respect, rather than intolerance and isolation, has remained clear. These past 8 years, Obama has been a champion for LGBTQ+ Americans.…

“A leader has to watch every word he or she says and quickly learns that you can’t go through life without a few critics, some well deserved” (pg. 5), this quote as some of the beginning words from MacDonald truly shows that a leader has responsibilities to uphold to. I found it interesting that he showed these responsibilities are not only external, but internal as well. Many do not realize the internal battles that leaders in ministry go through, and in order for leaders to handle a situation in a mature manner; they must uphold to the responsibilities of character they are expected to maintain. There are many internal and external expectations of leaders that are specified in Building Below the Waterline, but only some really stood out to me as factors that I would practice more than others in my leadership positions.…

I was born in Detroit and moved away before I had my brain was able to create memories. The only part of Detroit I knew was downtown. I’d go there for Tiger games, the Science Center, and the D.I.A. Before coming to U of D, I had the same stereotypical view of Detroit as most of United States. I thought of Detroit as being a city with a nice downtown but dangerous and rundown everywhere else. I was so wrong.…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

A mixture of mud, blood, and dust coated our bodies; to my left and right, cannonballs flew at us. Though we knew not how or when we were going to succeed, we just knew that we had to succeed. I am Lafayette, and if socialising, sailing the terrifying sea, and living in Valley Forge couldn't shake me, then no British army would.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

Growing up in Michigan has been a wonderful experience, but upon completing my education I would like to experience a new area. Taking every life experience I have had and apply it in new ways to other parts of the United States, different from where I got to grow up. By taking what I know, I can spread what I have learned to other citizens with different life styles or experiences. I think a suburban city not to far from a big city is an ideal place to live and start an independent life. Having the option and getting to explore a big city is great as you learn valuable lessons that everyone should know while applying everything I learned living in a suburb community.…
