Personal Narrative: My Trip To Costa Rica

Improved Essays
My memorable experience happened a few years ago when I went to Costa Rica. I was in Costa Rica for eight days and was able to see and do many new things that I could not have done in the United States. It was an exhilarating but also nerve-racking trip. First, I had never left the United States before going to Costa Rica, so I was quite nervous. I had no idea what to expect but in the plane on the way there my imagination was running wild and I was incredibly excited. The flight to Costa Rica was difficult because I hadn’t been on a plane in about fifteen years, and I was scared. However, facing my fear of flying turned out to be a great decision because I had a lot of fun in once we arrived at our destination. I got to share the journey with my teenage daughter who shared my excitement and fun. Next, being in Costa Rica gave me the opportunity to experience things that I wouldn’t have been able to do at home. At nights, I liked to sit outside of my room and enjoy the …show more content…
In Costa Rica, I was a foreigner for the first time in my life, and I learned that it is scary to be an outsider. I knew a limited amount of Spanish so I felt overwhelmed when I had to speak to any of the natives. I gained empathy for everyone who has the courage to visit another country. I learned that it is really important to find locals who are helpful and kind, since it is super easy to get lost in a foreign country, especially when you can’t read any of the signs. It felt empowering to be able to find my way through a country that was completely new to me. In conclusion, my trip to Costa Rica ended up being fun and educational. I learned a little about empathy and a little about tropical vegetation and wild life. I could never have replicated those experiences inside of the United States and was grateful to have the chance to open myself to those amazing

My trip would begin with my husband coming home, bursting into my room like someone’s behind him with a chainsaw, waving plane tickets and yelling “Honey grab your things because we’re going to Hawaii”. Before he could say when we were going I’d already made mental notes of who would watch the kids and our family dog King. I didn’t need much time to figure out what to wear or if I needed to pack light or heavy. My mind racing, with ideas of how much fun this is going to be, I jumped up off of the bed and begin packing my luggage as well as the kids’.…
