Personal Narrative: My Trip To California

In the summer of my junior year in high school I was able to visit my aunt in California. I was very excited to go since I born there and this would be the first time I came back. When I got on the plane I was so full of energy I didn’t sleep for the entire 12 hour plane ride. When the plane landed, it was at around the crack of dawn. When I was waiting for the bus to take me to the nearest Greyhound station, I marveled at the sky. The clouds were a wispy grey with the sky being a multitude of colors ranging from purple, pink and orange. As I was riding on the bus the first thing I thought of when I saw the highway was that the colors were dull. The sky, the roads, the buildings, the people, it all lacked color. It was like a saw a painting that only had the …show more content…
I soon discovered that California is indeed a colorful place the further you go from the cities. In general though the world is a colorful place. Mother Nature has left her many different creations to grow and thrive on earth. These creations are both a sight to see and important in the survival of all living things. From the smallest budding flower peeking out of the half frozen dirt to the tallest trees with bark bearing all the marks left by time, all these things play an important role. Most important of all though are the bees because they are one of the most commonly known creatures that pollinate plants. What they do is important because when they go from plant to plant they are picking up the pollen that plant produces and transferring some of that pollen to a different plant. This is one of the ways plants reproduce and in turn their reproduction is what keeps humans and animals alive. Some might argue that the ongoing decline of bees is a natural phenomenon and is no cause for worry, but the decline in bees have been a recurring event throughout the past up until this point in

Lemoore, California. The 559, the 93245, the small rural town located in the central region of the San Joaquin Valley. A place that will melt flip flops to the ground in the summer, yet it will have people gathering around a fire in the winter with their hands wrapped tightly around a steaming cup of cocoa. Not much goes on in this town and it is not quite what someone would call a vacation destination, but there is indeed something special about this town. This special characteristic is the way religion connects and creates a family out of the majority of people who live in this town.…

In many cases bees have been labeled a nuisance. To some people, especially people who are allergic to bees, these flying insects are no help; yet, in most cases they are essential to the survival of flowering plants or angiosperms. They complete the reproduction cycle of these plants and without them some plants would not have a successful pollination. Besides beekeepers, and other jobs where work relates to bees, these important creatures go unnoticed. Including bees “insect pollinators merit our preservation efforts because some 67 percent of extant flowering plants depend, to varying extents, upon them for reproduction,” (Tepedino 139) yet more and more people are discovering hives of bees are dying out with reasons unknown.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

The results of these experiences can be good or bad, or a little bit of both, but either way they shape our lives. The biggest life experience I’ve ever gone through is my move to California. Although this only happened about a year ago, it was a huge change for me because I left so much behind for an unknown future.…

The trip there seemed like it would never end, the first few hours we were all excited to get there but soon after that all we wanted to do is sleep. We stopped in a couple towns on the way there to either fuel up or just get something to eat. The food on the way there was pretty much chips, soda, and some food from Mcdonalds.…

I was born and raised in Southern California and lived in the same town up until I graduated high school. My ancestors are from England and Norway, but on my mother’s side, my great-grandmother was Native American. Both my parents grew up in Southern California and, generally, lived in the same area for most of their lives. Even though my mother was raised in Long Beach, she pronounces certain words strange, such as wash like worsh. Her grandmother came from Minnesota, and I believe that is how she came to speak with an almost accent.…

I was just going on a plane to Albuquerque, New Mexico and I didn’t know what laid ahead of me. My father, was part of the United Air Force so I had to move around a lot with him. I was just a shy fourteen-year-old with a wide nose, high cheekbones, and a thin and frail body. I never really thought about going into the army as it really never matched my shy and kind personality. The middle school that I went to in Afghanistan was a small hut where children sat down on the floor and learned together as a class.…

I went on a road trip to Lake Tahoe with my friends the week after graduation in June. We rented a cabin near the lake and spent four nights kayaking, hiking, and exploring different scenic spots throughout the area. My favorite (and scariest!) part of the trip was working up the courage to jump off a 20 foot cliff into the lake. The trip was a great way to wrap up our time at UCLA, and it gave us a chance to hang out together one last time before we went our separate ways.…
