Personal Narrative: My Trip To Brooklyn

Brooklyn
With this trip came some road bumps. Due to the last minute decision to go on this trip nobody packed waters. Or substantial food. As I drove, Mia scanned for somewhere to get sustenance. After 25 minutes, we pulled up to a cramped grocery store. We split up and gathered what food we would need for the next few days. Shannon and Lily came back with Jiffy Pop and potato chips.I stayed with Mia, who located the peanut butter and trail mix. At least we would have a source of protein. We hunt for enough bananas, apples, and oranges for all of us as a small breakfast tomorrow morning. There is no civilization near to get ice to preserve perishable food while we are camping. Also, none of us really knew how to fully cook enough meat for

It’s going to be a phenomenal trip and a marvelous night. We gather our belongings and the giant tent we would call home for the night. We followed Shannon down the unmarked trail. She was leading while adding in BS facts about trees she knew nothing about. She likes to be ahead of the group and make jokes to entertain us. The dead leaves and grass crunched under our feet as Lily and I kicked a large stone back in forth, like we were in the World Cup. As we ventured on, a cleared patch of trees was in our sight. We decided here would be an acceptable spot for our tent and a nice fire when it got dark.
Over the years of our friendship (since I’ve moved here at least) we decided to pool our money together to buy a nice big tent for our many nights we spent together; either at a campground by the lake or just in our backyards. This took us almost eight months to save up the money from birthdays, bottle returns, and good-old begging our parents for money. We each have our roles while setting up the tent. Lily gets the poles, Shannon shakes the tent to get leftover spiders and grass out. I pick up the instructions, then toss them back down while becoming slightly insulted that we still need them, just for Mia’s reassurance that we are doing everything correctly. We have become much more efficient setting this up once we get into our rhythm. We all work so well

My childhood in New York City was very difficult for me. I grow up in a predominantly Hispanic Dominican decent neighborhood in the upper Manhattan area called Washington Heights. Washington Heights in the early 1990’s was the heart of the drug trade. At one point in the 1990’s it was considered one of the worst neighborhoods to raise a child. I remember in the news, the news anchor reported that New York City was recognized as the crime capital in the 1950's through the early 1990's.…

TITLE Anza-Borrego Exploration: A Guide to Camping in the Desert LEAD PARAGRAPH When you think of camping, do you typically envision tents, grass, oak trees and bears (oh my!)? After spending the weekend camping in the vast Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, my notion of camping expanded tremendously. Let me set the stage by laying out just a few of the splendors you’re likely to encounter on the trail: sand, wild flowers, palm trees, and, if you’re lucky, big horn sheep! If you stay the night, you’re sure to see some tents and campfires too, so no need to reframe your entire perception of camping. For a detailed account of this non-traditional campers’ wonderland, read on!…

One experience that shaped my character as a person was my part-time job in high school. I worked as tour guide in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Being a tour guide pushes a person to be open minded and curious about other people. I remember having a tour group from New York City, and we had a great conversation when we were comparing our respective Chinatowns. The conversation had me continuously think of questions and reply to their question with an answer to the best of my ability.…

My friends and I have been having a hard week and we wanted to just relax so I suggested to them my lake house house. They wanted a little bit more rustic feel to camping but none of us really had any actual camping gear so we just opted for the lake house. We got all the essentials for the weekend: bug repellent, snacks, a radio, and a friendly little card game to take our minds off the world back at home. Everything was going smooth until it hit about six-ish, that’s when everything just seemed to get a little bit more stressful. When, at the store, we got everything a girl could ask for and then some, we got brownies, chips, stuff to make milkshakes, ect.…

I used to live on Irving Street, right on the border of Queens and Brooklyn. The Mexicanos and Puertorriqueños called it el barrio— the neighborhood. A place where they could hide from white supremacy and racism while enjoying themselves with their people, and, boy, did they know how to party. Coke, pot, meth, whatever your debauchery required. This was the place to get it.…
