Personal Narrative: My Trip To Birmingham

It was one of those super cold Sundays when I woke up to the sound of Momma sobbing. I jumped off the top of my bunk-bed that I shared with my little brother Kenny and checked on the bottom bunk to make sure that nothing had happened to him. He was lying there fast asleep. I could never understand how he could sleep through Momma’s crying and Joey’s sleep screams and yells that sounded usually like, “Don’t take him away” and “Oww! Stop! Please, stop.” This sort of stuff happened a lot since Dad died. I almost never sleep at all now. The slightest sound of Joey’s screaming or Momma’s crying and all I could do was sit there on my bed and check for Kenny who was always fast asleep dreaming away. This was the worst time of my life you see my family had taken a trip to Birmingham just before my old man had died. We had been in Birmingham when the Sixteenth Street Baptists Church bombing had happened and it scared my whole family (except for Joey) half to death. My momma and dad practically had one foot out the door the second we heard the loud “BOOM!” and rushed to the church to make sure that Joey was Ok, we were gone before sunrise the next morning we didn’t even stop for gas until we saw the sign that said “Welcome to Tennessee” and Dad could assure Momma that we were safe and no longer in Alabama and up till Ohio we were just driving along the hillbilly countryside. By the time I woke up we were about half way through Ohio and all I could think about was the fact that Kenny and Joey were still asleep. After all, they had been sleeping since before Momma and me. About four hours later we finally got home and the first thing I did was hug my momma I

Growing up in one of the poorest regions of the United States has taught me two things; one, we are not defined by stereotypes, and two, hardships are made to be overcome. Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Middlesboro, KY sits on the Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia border. The multicolored fall foliage and the vivid green mountains in the spring are disserved by the descriptor spectacular. My roots are firmly nestled in the Cumberland Gap where Daniel Boone started his journey to the West decades ago. I am proud to call myself an Appalachian-American.…

After all the struggling, the bad times, today it might finally be over. Yesterday I was scavenging around Weston Street today to find any supplies worth taking. Weston Street is the most dangerous location of New Junction City if that’s even possible. It’s dominated by various gangs and groups who only looked out for themselves. I had heard what keeps them in power was this thing called “Magic”.…

Just this past January, my business solicitor and second father, Hanson, did me a great service and obtained my allowance to attend Harrow. Harrow is a boarding school, which only has boys, which makes me very excited indeed, as I will have fellows with which I can roughhouse (The Byron Chronology). Today is my first day at Harrow and already I have a tutor by the name of Henry Dury. He is the son of the headmaster and I feel as though I am already making connections to the top. He is quite a dull man, though, and I have perhaps thought to call him Henry Dully as it seems more appropriate for his character.…

The trip started at the end of the first week of Ramadan me, and three of my cousins went together our father dropped us off at the airport, as we went inside we sat in a circle with the rest of the group and the group leader in the middle was telling us about what is going to happen when we get there and what should we do, he said that we have to fill up something in the plane and when we arrive we are going to be free to go and explore the city which is Manchester. Not knowing what was going on I followed her upstairs slowly and hated what lay before me.
