During the return back home, we stopped by a Rita’s to get some ice cream and to relax for a little while. Next thing we heard were gun shots.
A beautiful day in the summer at Atlantic City or at least that’s what I thought it was going to turn out to be. But things turned around fast during the evening when my friends and I went to go get ice cream at Rita’s Italian Ice. My friend’s dad was in the minivan when the shots rang out. Two men on the opposite sides of the street began to shoot one another. We had 2 toddlers with us during the time. I can remember that it

Two years ago, my boyfriend and I brought his two daughters to Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ for the first time. We all loved roller coasters, except for the youngest daughter because she had never been on a roller coaster before. I knew that if she did not go on a ride that my boyfriend would have to stay behind her. When we were walking into the park, I continued to tell her that I know she will go on all the roller coasters. She would then respond to me each time with “No I won’t”.…

As I said “goodbye” to Johns Creek, I began venturing on a new journey. I would have slept on the long 8-hour expedition if not for the spectacular books that we had brought on the trip. As I grabbed the first book, it was like winning the best of the best. The book could keep someone busy for an entire 3 hours. The experience was as if the book was talking to me.…

What I don’t understand is how is something of small significance lead to someone taking to someone taking their peers and shooting them. I will never understand why someone would shoot someone else over something small. This is exactly what I learned in psychology about nature Vs. nurture which talk about whether a person a person is born (nature) or made (nurture) into who they are.…

Orlando Trip This summer, I went on a trip to Orlando, Florida with the Youth Group of First Baptist Church Oxford. My friend David was the only person that went on the trip that was in my grade. Most of the people that went with us on this trip were juniors and seniors as well as a few people that were going to Ole Miss. This was one of the best trips I had been on in a very long time and a very good life experience for me.…

I was in a deep sleep dreaming about my life until BOOM, my mom came in and told me to wake up. I was walking to the bathroom like a zombie to the bathroom brushing my teeth, taking a shower, and changing my clothes. We had to get to the airport as quickly as possible, because our flight leaves at five o’clock in the morning. Even though I was mad doing this I still enjoyed it because we were on our way to Florida!!This is great practice because one day I will have to do this again.…

The clock above my head ticks slowly, the sound ever increasing as the minutes pass by; tick, tick, tick. I normally do not notice the time while I work, usually I am the energizer bunny of workers, in early, out late, always working, but that day was different. I had a date; a first date to be exact. Finally the time has come for me to go home; I step out into the warm Vegas air.…

My mother, brother and I arrive in the Atlantic City airport after a surprisingly short two hour flight. After dawdling away time by alternating between electronic games and magazine scavenger hunts, or sleeping (in my mother’s case), we were ready to see our timeshare hotel suite. Our destination a half hour away, we climbed into a traditional cab. Our driver provided unintended humor with his strong Jamaican accent. Mom made small talk, inquiring about the city: where to eat, what to do, etc.…

Paranoid that one of us would disappear at the airport, my mother kept a close eye on us, for us kids though, it’s a blast being in a new place, seeing different sights and hearing different accents. This the first time my parents had taken all five of us kids overseas. My aunt and uncle, who had been planning this trip for weeks, met us at the airport, thereafter we headed to Long Island. An hour and a half later we arrived at Paul and Shauna.…

I remember how quickly my grandmother navigated through the crowds so gracefully, her carnation pink coat fluttering through a sea of monochromatic greys and blacks. She was a southern belle who easily integrated into the fasted pace life of a New Yorker. She moved to New York at a later point in her life, but that never seemed to slow her down. She was the epitome of sophistication, brilliance, and commitment. To me, she represented everything a woman ought to be.…
