I have played baseball ever since I was a young kid, but somehow, at seventeen I still had numerous struggles with it. You would think after my grandpa being drafted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League baseball team, and my dad getting a full ride to the University of Denver their skill would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. I wasn't terrible, I could hit a 90 mile per hour fastball and I could, for the most part, field a ground ball. However, I was definitely not about to be scouted by the college scouts.…
Quitting the sport I loved had made me realize that I need to start setting more goals for myself. Before my injury, my goals were mostly just about gymnastics. Now I have to set different goals in real life, which is for the better since I cannot do gymnastics forever. Before my injury gymnastics was all I thought about and I also did much better in school, but I was also more stressed. Gymnastics has taught me so much, especially patience which is why I did so well in school.…
It Follows Me Feel the cold wind frosting your ears, see the existence around you rushing by in a blur, and imagine the ground rising up to meet you. Visualize the world spinning away while waiting for it to come back. Experience the sharp pain of falling, which will make you strive for the satisfaction of perfection.…
It was a time for bonding with my best friend, connecting with my family, and discovering that I like a sport and find my passion for it in my life. I look forward to visiting each year and am excited for the adventures and new memories that will come from my next trip to…
Just like the year before it was like I was living it again. We were supposed to have a 3 day tryout, no one thought we have to try out though because there was only 16 of us there to try out. We all figured no way. Being on team with all my friends made me respect them more because of how hard they worked, how well we worked together on the…
Outside of my academic activities, I have a strong passion for sports and exercise. As a student-athlete for over 14 years, I have learned the value of hard-work, dedication, and determination. Establishing these invaluable attributes early on made it possible for me to become an NCAA Division III lacrosse athlete. Sports dramatically shaped the person I am today and taught me how to step to work in unison with my teammates to achieve a common goal and simultaneously step up as a leader.…
Senior night. One of the most important traditions my marching band has. I never quite understood the purpose of this tradition, was it to show progress? A last ‘hurrah’ for the upperclassmen to watch? It took me four years to understand completely what senior night really means.…
It was fun because of the cool and interesting stands such as the dark classroom and the apple bobbing that I really wanted to try. I had a part in the Pageant as a ham. I was so excited to play a ham and my costume was so creative. However, I dozed off and missed my cue to go on stage so I was a little too late. I was just so embarrassed and Mrs. Merriweather made me feel so terrible because I ruined the Pageant..…
Our team was ecstatic because it was the 2nd game in 3 games we had won after losing about 30, plus it was also the first time we ever placed in a tournament. We ended up getting some pretty daunting medals, which just added to the excitement we had from actually achieving something as a team for once. After finishing up the tournament the whole team went out to a Mexican restaurant to cap off the trip. The Mexican place was real authentic and in the top it contained a store with professional sports memorabilia. After we finished eating, we hopped back in the car and took off for a 3 hour trip back to…
The day I made it to varsity soccer Tryouts started at 6:30pm and ended around 8. My friend Miguel gave me a ride that last tryout. I remember being nervous because It was my last year I would be playing in high school and the only team I was able to play for was varsity. There was about 115 kids trying out, and 3 coaches looking for kids to play for them.…
When we finally got there, me and my brother Sam took many pictures and videos. when we got inside, all of us got to choose our favorite football team to be for the day. Sam and my dad chose the the South Carolina Gamecocks. My mom chose the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and I chose the Oregon Ducks. We had a great time looking at the trophies and awards that the players got and I said I wanted to be just like them.…
I walked into that gym on the first day of practice after 10 years of soccer. I was nervous and didn’t know anyone. This was all brand new to me. I thought I was always going to stick with soccer. Cheerleading was something I never thought I would be interested in but decided to give it a try.…
Moving to a new state, from the south to the east, was one of the largest changes in my life. Everyone would be different: my teachers, friends, and coaches. In fact, my parents' biggest worries were about gymnastics, as I never had difficulty making friends. They were mainly fretful about the coaches; after all, they would have the most impact on my attitude towards gymnastics. After arriving in Pennsylvania, we immediately searched for a gym.…
“Blood, sweat, and chalk; never tears.” These words have guided my gymnastics career throughout high school. Pretty much starting from the beginning, I had to re-learn many skills and tricks that I had lost after quitting gymnastics for dance lessons in fifth grade instead of joining the competitive team. I lived for gymnastics and I still do. Walking into the gym always boosts my mood and gives me a rush of determination.…
My First Dance Competition The first time I performed at a dance competition was a very exciting and memorable moment for me. I was six years old and insanely nervous. Typically the nerves hit me while I wait in the wing of the stage for my name to be called, but this time it began the moment I woke up in the morning. I remember having to wake up at about six in the morning in order to have time to get ready and be at the convention center in Wichita when the doors opened at 7:30 a.m.…
