Personal Narrative: My Transition Into The Classroom

Improved Essays
In the beginning of my childhood, I continually struggled with reading comprehension, My family members managed comprehension skills throughout school, unlike my situation. Teachers and administrators declared it was a “learning disability and I needed to be put into the IEP Program.” Reading became a wrangle and putting the context together. I read everyday to help improve it, however nothing worked. Once I began my transition into middle school, I was put into the easiest english classes. It was unfair, I desired for a challenge; to prove to my teachers, I’m capable of harder english classes. In 6th grade, the process went by slower, reading books that were easy and learning grammar was out of my league. Not only, I also created a challenge

All throughout my school career, starting all the way in elementary school, school came very easy for me. I found that I rarely had to try hard at anything because it seems like I just knew it. With very little studying I was able to maintain high grades. In middle school I was put in advance math classes and it still wasn't a challenge but then in my junior year of high school things started to get difficult.…

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

My Learning Style My learning style is auditory, it can help me learn because all I have to do is make sure I listen and more than likely I will succeed. Also, this will help me in sports because if I listen, then I will always know what to do. Such as, different plays and my teammates advice. In addition, I already read out loud.…

Everyone has their own kind of sacrifices for better or worse. Sometimes we offer these sacrifices as a means to provide protection or some ray of hope. Tutors are known to be educated in whatever subject they tutor in as well as being extremely patient. Though some do it for free or may charge a fee, it always comes down to how much effort they put into each session and ultimately the result. I remember a particular event during sophomore year of high school, I offered to tutor a young freshman girl named Misha.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

So what is happening here? What would drive an intelligent, confident and capable teacher, whom I witnessed, reduce the gnarliest year ten boy to tears, scare the eye liner off the goth- year nine girls, and run an entire department like clock- work, stay? Why did this obviously very clever, capable, confident person remain in a career which she obviously hated so much? I have seen it ALL TOO OFTEN!…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…

Imagine growing up without a voice. That is how I spent my middle and early high school years, silent. Although I was physically and mentally capable of speaking, I kept quiet for fear of judging words and looks from my peers. What set me apart from other students was my sexual orientation. I did not feel confident in who I was until I stepped on my high school’s stage, acting out the struggles of others.…

On September 25, 2015, I returned to my hometown of Hugo, Minnesota to interview a teacher of the White Bear Lake Area School District, Mrs. Laura Bege. I know Mrs. Bege from volunteering in her class twice a week for a semester during my junior year of high school. She has become a person I admire, and would like to follow in her footsteps. I had the privilege to sit down and listen to her story about being a teacher. If you were to ask Mrs. Bege why she wanted to be a teacher, she would tell you that she doesn’t know.…

One day during my summer holiday, I was clearing out my high school bookcase. A pink piece of paper fell out as I pulled out my English textbook. As soon as I saw that piece of paper, I immediately recognized it. It was the love letter that I wrote for my crush in my freshman year. At once, a feeling of regret instantly overwhelmed me, and my memory flashed back to my freshman year……

It was the first week of class at University of North Carolina. I was already in college and attending one of my first freshman classes in a large auditorium. I remember that the college was UNC in particular because some people were wearing shirts and sweaters from the bookstore. It was dark outside even though the sun should have been out since I was going to class and doing things that I would normally always do during the day. There were lots of different characters in my dream, most of them were in my class.…

My mother throughout my whole life has provided me with a sincere love of learning, which has affected my whole life. I can remember times when we went on our group nature walks to learn about nature. While on those nature walks, we learned about plants, trees, animals, and we even searched for bugs to collect! Also we would go out at night and look at the spectacular stars and even study the stars’ constellations or maybe even try to find owls while they were up at night and discover what type of owl they were by the sound of their hoot. We would visit the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and discover beauty and talent and learn about who these artists were and their life stories.…
