Decent Essays
My transition from childhood to adulthood mentally started when I was just ten years old. It slowly matured and ended in my teen years. This is when my family bought our new house. One of those things was making me feel very special and the center of attention for one special night each year. But before this very special night, my mom and I would go shopping for a dress and then get my hair done all pretty. Now flash forward back to the big night. Growing up in the late 80s through the 90s seemed like such a long time ago. I grew up in a one story house which consisted of myself, my mother, older brother and sister. I was the baby of the family so evenings consisted of arguments with my siblings, dinner, and followed by sports or playing outside. On Fridays after school, I would head to the west side of Columbus for the weekend to spend time with my father, grandmother and other paternal relatives that lived nearby. I loved the time I spent out west with my father.…

Before even going to the library, education was a familial value that had been instilled into me from even my earliest memories. I would read to my brother in the womb when my Mom was pregnant, I would read to him while she cooked dinner, I would read a “chapter” of my Sesame Street dictionary every night before bed and would play school for fun. The library reinforced just how important education was in my life. Every summer they would host a summer reading competition to see how many summer reading books each child in the town could read. At the end of the summer, there would be winners and a pizza party with prizes.…
