Transitioning occurs in all stages of life whether it’s from a baby crawling to walking, or an elder moving from their home to a retirement facility. One transition in life that most of us face is the evolution from high school to a college or a university. With moving into a new phase of my life I was optimistic about the difficulties of becoming comfortable with the population, the diversity, and the college life in general that Wayne State provides. I made the leap to a big city called Detroit from a small city called my home. I live in a small urban city, downriver, called Wyandotte.…
It’s hard to move schools after staying in one for so long. I left my one school in North Carolina. I was so sad the day of the move. I lived there all my life and had so many great friends. I didn’t want to leave them behind and make all new ones.…
Transitioning from high school to college is difficult. There is a huge increase in amount of homework. Quizzes, tests and midterms are harder compare to high school. Writing at the college level is difficult for me because English is my second language. Figuring out what I was planning to major in was the hardest part because I entered college not knowing what I was interested in doing.…
I became interested in taking classes online because when my father got ill I had to help my mother take care of him, however I didn’t want to school to school therefore I transfer to Keiser University in order to finish my associates online. I was very successful in completing my associates online because I had a flexible schedule. I planned myself ahead to know each day what I had to accomplish to not fall behind. Throughout time I spoke to the Dean of students at Keiser to approve me taking more than one class online. She checked my record and my GPA and approved my request.…
I am a recent transfer student from Wake Technical Community College. At Wake Tech, I have completed numerous business courses and I got my Accounting Core Certificate. My major is International Studies at NCSU and I was planning to minor in Accounting. I took two Accounting classes at Wake Tech already and one of the courses did not show up on my transcript. I have attached a document to verify that I have taken ACC200 and ACC210.…
The more I thought of the idea of moving the more fear I had, I thought to myself “how are you going to make it on your own, how am I going to enroll for school full time and manage a full time job”? Just thinking of the responsivities I was heading towards freaked me out. Becoming an adult was no joke nor it was going to be fun, wishing to grow up to have more freedom didn’t seem must of a freedom. I ended up going the easy way and enrolled in a community college where I could do general basics without having to move and spending less money in college. With what an average student would take to complete general basics in two year, it has taken me three.…
Middle school can be an odd and rough time for kids, as they change from being sheltered youth to responsible young adults. I failed miserably at handling that transition. The classes taught in middle school were supposed to be easy, especially now that I look in retrospect. Yet, I regularly brought home B’s and low A’s, at best, on my report card. I had barely challenged myself in middle school, if at all.…
“I know applying to colleges is the last thing you want to do right now, but you might change your mind,” a trusted friend told me. It was December of my senior year of high school, and college application deadlines were approaching quickly. I was recovering from a major illness at the time, and wasn’t ready to think about college. My plan was to spend a year living at home and working before I pursued higher education. In the following months, my recovery progressed rapidly.…
My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…
Even being an American has it’s problems. Especially coming from a Hispanic background. I was born in South Carolina, when I was five years old barely starting Kindergarten, my parents decided a big change for my brothers and I. We moved to Mexico, we lived there for about three years I started school there, so I never really had the chance on learning English. After I started going to school in Mexico, my parents decided to come back to South Carolina. That’s when everything was confusing, I didn’t speak any English which was very terrifying to me.…
I have never felt more abashed about a conflict that almost shattered my dreams. Throughout life, I never truly understood the failure of success. There are numerous accounts of failure I have strived from. However, now that I have experienced true failure, there is only one account that affected me the most that I’ll never forget. Failure is difficult to grasp and accept, especially when it nearly jeopardized my livelihood.…
I come from a family of extremely hardworking people and they may not have provided me with full fortune, but they still allow me to live a fairly comfortable lifestyle. I have never worried about going nights without a meal on the table, or clothes on my back, or the inability of sleeping under a roof. However, I do worry about other financial aspects that I believe support my need for an academic scholarship. Because my family has worked diligently for every single asset they have earned, I have made it my duty to do the same for myself. With that being said, I am the only person who pays for my education and other expenses having to do with it.…
When I talked to Megan, she told me about her experience with switching schools. She thought she would be unhappy with the switch at first, in fact, she was worried about her friends and whether west would actually be better. Megan was very nervous but ultimately decided that switching would be better than her previous situation. Like Megan, I felt worried about my first day at middle school. I knew nobody, most of the people from my elementary school went to Horning and my best friend was going to attend Butler.…
Have you ever just thought about how you would take college life? Today a class had to read an article on preparing for college. The transition to college life, dorm life, can be awfully difficult at times. But once one's use to the dorm life he/ she will not have to worry anymore. On a college campus, all individuals are held responsible for their own actions.…
Preparing for transfer can be hard; in fact, it is more than hard for me. One years ago I came to the ASU with the failure of applying for UCSB. And I promised to myself I am going to transfer to that school two years later. One year past, I get to know a group of friends and we have fun together; We travel together; We build bonds with each eventually. Some of them also share a similar goal like mine, transferring to other school which is one the reason brought us together at the beginning, but they all end up giving up.…
