Personal Narrative: My Time At St. Dominic

Decent Essays
During my time at St.Dominic, I have been a part of numerous activities such as Cheerleading, Student Council Class Cabinet, Ambassadors Club, FBLA, and Glamour Gals. I feel some of my bigger accomplishments are from participating in Future Business Leaders of America(FBLA) and Cheer. In my first year of joining FBLA, I ranked fourth in the distract for my division and was asked back to compete in state. Joining these organizations was important to me because it was a great way for me to get involved in my school and prepare for my future. Cheer however stands out in my mind as the activity that greatly impacts me because it has taught me the meaning of teamwork and perseverance. “Unity is strength. . . when there is teamwork and collaboration,

Anna Maria Island is a special place to visit in Florida. This beautiful barrier island is located in Manatee County on Florida's west coast in the Gulf of Mexico. I've been there three times to stay at my Papa and Grandma's condo on family vacations, and I am fond of it there! When we visit, we see beautiful palm trees and nature, and we go to many wonderful places on the island. One place I really love is Fire and Stone Pizza!…

At the age of 21, having her first daughter, my mother did not have an education beyond the sixth grade. Three years later we were abandoned by my fleeing father to fend for ourselves in a small and rural community. Growing up on the small Caribbean island of St. Lucia, my mother struggled for many years to support her small family. Four years ago, we made our way to Florida, along with my younger sister, where we resided with friends. Although I graduated high school in St. Lucia, my mother did not have the finances to aid with my college expenses, thus she insisted that I again attend high school to provide her with ample time to obtain some form of income.…

Most know Ronald Reagan best for his acting career and presidency, but not many look back to his past and sees how his leadership roles started early in life; which is where mine starts. Throughout my life, leadership has always been a part of me, I have always strained to help others and try to lead them the right way. Trying my hardest has helped me make a great impact to those around me by showing them what can be done. When I was in eighth grade, a new opportunity was given to my class to take a high school course early, and I decided to be one of the few to go through with it, knowing it would be a lot of work. I started thinking about how this could be a benefit to me.…

Over the years I have worked diligently to maintain decent grades throughout middle school and high school. I have kept a grade point average of 3.5 and have devoted many hours of extra courses online in order to graduate in May of 2016, one year ahead of my class. From 2013 to 2015, I finalized a two-year Business Management Program and obtained college credits by completing this course. Through Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) in 2014 I earned a certificate for participating in the State Leadership Conference. I possess leadership through education and extracurricular activities.…

To be successful, to be intelligent, to be a change. Those are the three main reasons I want to attend college. In this day and age, many jobs require a higher level of education to be able to work. Those jobs that don’t require a degree, depend upon more manual labor, backbreaking work and lower wages. I would rather remain in school longer, expand my knowledge, and get a career on everything I have learned, than go straight to the work field to earn less and do more.…

My first trip to Haiti was the summer after my seventh grade year. Since then, I have returned annually only to grow more fond of the people there. Through travel, I have learned about myself and the world I live in and to treat any hardship as an opportunity to learn and grow, I have obtained a respect for different cultures and ways of life, and I have discovered my passion for working with and teaching others. Every time I go to Haiti, the joy the adults and children carry with them is astonishing Haitians are so grateful for what little they have because they know that their lives could be much worse.…

The Boys and Girls Club, has brought so many opportunities into my life that have shaped me into the strong, hard working, role model I am today. At my club, I enjoy the luxury of the teen side with my friends, and participate in many leadership programs, such as Torch Club and now Keystone. I set an example for those looking up to me, and have even gotten the chance to mentor younger kids/help out my community by donating to numerous homeless shelters, and going to the accompany the seniors at senior homes. My actions haven’t always seemed to be one of a leader's, and my life at the club hasn’t always been so wonderful either.…

After many hours of travelling, my family and I finally arrived in the Dominican Republic; our luxurious home for the next seven days.…

Sighing deeply I locked my gaze on the sizable red dirt hill before me. A gust of dry heat hit me with a cloud of dust that burned my eyes, I cleared my throat with a small cough. Now my head fully fixated on the ground as I trekked up the hill. To trip on the rocky unbalanced road would not only be dangerous, but also thoroughly embarrassing if seen by my eighteen mission trip team members who followed behind me. This trip to Haiti was my third, I had walked this road many times before, but this year my destination was different.…
