Personal Narrative: My Tennis Career

Great Essays
As soon as I got out of the car, the heat hit me like I was in a sauna. I fumbled through my bag looking for a hat, only looking up for a second when I heard a familiar voice. It was David, whom I’ve practically known my whole life and was a huge part of my tennis career. I saw him everyday up until a few months ago when he decided to take a year off from coaching at the club to help out at Norwalk Grassroots. He came back now and then to visit or have indoor lessons with inner city kids whenever it was cold. One of these times, he asked me to help him out for one week in the summer, I couldn’t say no because I knew he would be offended. Also my mom was standing right there and I knew I wouldn’t hear the end of it if I said no.
“Hi Nathiya, thanks so much for coming! Would you be able to do check in, while I set

“Those kids work hard, every single one of them” I said, handing the hopper to David.
“I drill them hard to make sure that they get the most out of these lessons, for some of them this one week in the summer is all their families can afford. They smile through it because they know this is a once in a lifetime experience. These kid deserve lessons, they want to learn how to play tennis just as much as any other kid. I remember Dan coached you when you were younger, you were exactly like those kids, trust me. People play tennis the same way and for the same reason” he said, scanning my face for a response and chuckling when he noticed he had just stunned me.
I stood there for a second before responding and when I did, I still didn’t know exactly what to say. My mom drove up waving to David and gesturing for me to get in the car. I got in the car, the car ride was silent again. But this time it was because I was thinking and smiling to myself. Why? I was watching kids use tennis as a way to forget everything around them, and a way to have fun. Just like I

Emotional Intelligence Flag football was exciting, but I was ecstatic for my first padded practice the summer going into sixth grade. It was my first football practice in full pads and I was so excited, I had only played flag football up until this so this was going to be the best day of my life. I was actually going to play real football, but I never thought that it would teach me one of the most influential lessons that I have ever learned. It was the perfect day for football, mid-seventies with a slight breeze with a beautiful sunset.…

Our daily wiffle ball game was about to start. There was a wiffle ball game every evening behind the apartment complex I lived in. The game was played in a luscious green grass field with a monstrous hill in left field. The usual squad was myself, Ricky, Justin, Michael, Jonathon, Latrell, and occasionally Greg but his parents usually make him stay inside and play monopoly or some other dumb board game. Our teams were always different from the last game.…

My life is brimming with numerous wonders; however, there are a few aspects concerning my life that I believe have made the biggest impacts on my personality, and me as an individual. Those aspects include my athleticism, my desire to learn, and my work ethic. I am an aspiring tennis player, and through my athleticism, I have trained and thrived for what I wanted in both my physical stature, as well as my physical capabilities on the tennis court. As a result of my physical training, I am able to endure matches that may go on for prolonged interludes of time. Additionally, I am capable of withstanding points where I am running from one precinct of the court to another, and sometimes win the point as well.…
