The moment all the tyros were broken up and my team was the only one without a corporate advisor, the grumbling started. I knew there would be some trouble when you consider that this was their chance to grab one of those open positions and the other teams would have a clear advantage over us. After everything I had gone through just too graduate, deal with my father’s accident, the double your pleasure skank twins living at my house with their mother, and the team member from hell who had spoken rudely to Mr. Trystan, I would be damn if I was going to put up with any crap. “If anyone feels that they are not up to the challenge, I wish you luck on your next attempt to gain employment here. Just tell me what to do.” I had several ideas on what I would like to tell him what to do, but that would have to wait until after I get things moving. “Excuse me,” I called over to one of the receptionist who asked to work for me. “Take me to my office then the conference room closet to it, have IT deliver us some laptops and cell phone, and some menus to local restaurants that deliver lunch and dinner. Oh, and notify Human Resources that you and your friend now works for me. Is there going to be a problem?” “No, Lead Tyro Stephenson,” she said quickly. “The section of the floor your office is one has its own conference room and a suite of smaller offices for your team members. Once I have their offices assigned and their desk phones turned on, I’ll have their intercom number passed to them and ready for you to call us to connect to them. If you would, Lead Tyro Stephenson,” said the woman stiffly, “come this way.” As we walked through the lobby, the woman called the other two women over and gave them a list of things to do. They took off running and one of them was stopped by the last people she wanted to see. Alissa and Allison rushed up to me with smiling faces and swaying their hips

DIRT, WASTE, AND OUTCAST. The golden men in freshly groomed suits would’ve described the outskirt of this deserted place, yet they still manage to stop by once in awhile. I assumed the destination in which every conscious minds would have resisted to stop here, as the valley of ashes laid between their desires; the yellow city of life, itself. It was early noon under the vacant sunlight when two men appeared, almost solidly, at the rusting door of my garage.…

After dinner, coffee was served in the “Petit Salon”. The Baron de Valfort offered a glass of Charteuse to the ladies. Afterwards, he called Étienne, and speaking in his ear, gave him some mysterious orders. I could not make out what he had whispered to his valet, however, I did not have to wait long to learn what he had been so cagey about. “My friends,” he said, raising his arms, in a high gesture, meant to capture our attention, “you are, in a moment, ‘a vintage moment’, if I may say so, going to taste a very special ‘Cognac Napoléon’ from my very private stock.”…

My breeches were stiff, and my boots were almost as shiny as the grin on my face. I hoped for the one thing I had yet to acquire: a blue ribbon. The other riders were mounting when I took a deep breath, soaking in the crisp fall breeze.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…
