Personal Narrative: My Team Journey

Improved Essays
From my point of view, our team process was a journey, and in some ways, it felt like a marathon instead of what I thought would be an easy sprint. Early on in class when we were all introduced to this Leadership in Movies Project I thought it would be a fun way to work in close collaboration with classmates with classmates whom I had never known before. The task of finding a movie was the beginning of how our group started to bond. In hindsight, this assignment could be considered our icebreaker.

Once we picked a movie, I was so excited to watch it. The first movie we chose was rejected. Then we had to find another movie, so we did. The second movie we picked had Melissa McCarthy since she is one of my favorite actresses I was excited to watch that too. In all honesty, once that move was rejected too my motivation was hindered. I had watched two movies previously and since I’m not a movie watcher in general, watching a third movie did not excite

After that was finally figured out we were all assigned parts of the paper to write. Looking back on it, I think it would have been easier for me to write the Team Process part rather than the part I wrote. I honestly feel like I understood the movie yet I feel like there was so much more to the movie than what I understood. I wonder if we chose a movie was one that I had already seen if that would have helped me in the long run.

Days after I had my asthma attack I genuinely considered giving up on the entire semester. Being that medicated and only getting a couple of hours of sleep a night was getting to me. The day of my asthma attack was on very early Monday morning. I was sent home from the emergency room around four a.m. and was exhausted. I had let my group know early on that I was not going to attend that night’s class. After my text went out each member except for one, announced they were not going to come to class that night

Walking on the pool deck my freshman year I was nervous yet excited. I questioned what I was doing as I had never played water polo, but I decided to give it a try. I thought, ‘how hard could it be.’ My first practice proved it was truly brutal. I was out of shape, did not perform the drills correctly, and I could barely swim with the ball.…

It was October 16, 2012. I was in seventh grade, just a boy to become someone or something. We were loading the bus with our two coaches, Coach Voss and Coach Larh. Coach Voss the offensive coach who liked to make us run, and coach larh, our Defensive coach who taught me everything I known about the defensive side of the ball. This was a big game for me and my fellow teammates this game was going to set the tone for the rest of the season to show that we can be successful.…

When I was in the first grade, I was considered a goody two-shoes because I followed all the rules and got good grades, but I never really believed that I deserved the nickname until one day on the playground. My friends and I decided to play Follow the Leader. As we continued to play the game, we started to sing all of the songs we had learned in class. I began to wonder, are we allowed to sing outside during recess?…

I never been held more accountable in one school year other than my senior year of high school, I was taught how to build off the good and not the bad growing up. In high school I played football, and my senior year my football team hired a new coach, Coach Robbie. Coach Robbie has lived in the same city as me since he was a child, so he knew how hard the streets were, and knows how to make someone not to settle for what it is that they do not want. Coach Robbie held people accountable, a great father, and a smart man.…

Last school year, as a junior, our football team was playing in the sectional championship game against Northwood. In the previous season we lost to the Northwood Panthers in the first round of the sectional tournament. Because of the previous attempt to beat a strong Northwood team I was feeling nervous, and almost even scared. During the beginning of the game it was a close battle and I could feel myself getting fatigued.…

In my collaboration assignment, I faced a few challenges, but I also learned many things. When I went looking for inspiration for a subject that would inspire me, I found an article about traces of antibiotics in the environment. During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

Now that we are all pinching pennies, a lot of people are traveling together with coworkers, friends or family, or perhaps with a tour group. There are times when I enjoy charting the waters on my own and times when I welcome the kindred spirits of fellow travelers on my journeys. If you are new to this type of traveling or if you would just like to make your trips better, there are certain behaviors and attitudes that are different when traveling with a group of two or more people. Here are some suggestions that I have taking note of in my group travels: In order to take care of your own personal needs in this trip, make sure you are realistic and also creative about what you pack. If you know you will not get much privacy or time alone,…

You could say we went through the “forming” and “storming” stages of group work that semester. Second semester, after we had an opportunity to analyze each other’s strengths, we were able to work much more efficiently. We evolved into a united group with common goals, and this evolution is reflected in the deliverables we created in 732 to 752. We learned a lot about the questions to ask when designating roles on a project and paying attention to identify these strengths. We also learned about our own strengths in the process.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Reflection Essay 1 This week, I grasped the importance of teamwork. I didn’t recognize how vital it was, and how pooling together our resources would be so crucial to the advancement of our project. For the first session, the ideas we had were dull, to say the least. It was not a fruitful discussion. I attempted to bring some ideas to the fore but my thoughts were instantly shot down.…
