Personal Narrative: My Team During The Soccer Tournament

Decent Essays
During the Tournament I was defence with another partner. I definitely tried but I don’t think I did the best. I understand I need more practice to improve my skills on playing defense in soccer. My team in overall was great, I can tell they have a passion for soccer by how well they were playing and by seeing them play every school break. I give myself a B, I give myself this grade because I did accept this challenge and I did try but like i said i did not give it all i got.

My Last Soccer Game It was the morning of my last soccer game of the season. I still haven't made my first goal yet so I was determined to that day. As I got out of my car walked through the grass to get to my team and start stretching to prepare for our last game, the smell of wet grass hit me in the face. My soccer cleats began to get wet and sink into the wet muddy grass as I walked.…

We began to play soccer from a fundamental perspective, practicing elementary skills every morning and afternoon. When I thought that our team was ready for the real game, I talked the president of soccer club into organizing soccer match on campus. Unfortunately, our team lost in the first game with a score of 0-3. The failure pushed me to find effective ways to win next game against a stronger rival.…

Sweat, hard work, adrenaline. These are all things I felt in a special “moment in time” that I shared with my varsity soccer team. The team consists of many different players but the to name a couple: undefeated in the league and only lost one game so far. Our next game is against our rivals, Port Alleghany. This is where the story begins.…

In lieu of letting the new players struggle with learning technical skills, I and a few other veteran team members taught the new players the fundamentals of soccer. Through weeks of training and weekend practices we all began to see growth in our new team. From this moment I knew my hard work was beginning to pay off. We endured many discouraging losses from the first few games; which turned a lot of heads in my direction. But we slowly bonded as a team and learned how to play together which showed on the scoreboard.…

Failure is all around us, for most of us it is a daily occurrence even with little things like failing a quiz or missing a shot in your game. I used to let my failures define me and who I have been especially when I failed to make the Varsity soccer team my junior year. I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity.…

I had to ask myself if I was really willing to put this much time and effort into something where the outcome WAS UNCERTAIN AT BEST. After thinking about it and remembering how much I enjoyed playing, I decided to commit 100 percent to trying to secure a spot on the team. After all, I had been missing soccer since I WAS on my EIGHTH grade school team. At the first open field, that uncomfortable feeling came back.…

    1. The field was hardly a field- grass only grew in disconnected patches and the ground was unleveled- there was no equipment, no coaches, only a group of ten-year-old boys staring directly at me. The leaders and soccer balls were nowhere to be found, yet I- the one who had not played organized soccer or more like organized bench sitting since eight grade- had to think of how I could lead a soccer practice for ninety minutes. I needed to be creative.…

Burr! It really is freezing at 6:45 a.m. on a January morning. I shiver as I stand there in the wet grass waiting for soccer practice to start. “What time is it anyway,” I wonder out loud. Of course, I am super early to practice so I can stretch out the knee I injured last season. At least that’s the reason I give my mom, but in reality, it helps my nerves to be there before anyone else.…

As I jog around the field, following my teammate in front of me like a baby duck follows its mother, I prepare my mindset for the game. As a forward, I must be on top of my game so I can whiz around the defenders and launch the ball into the back of the net with a swoosh. Ever since I can remember, forward has always been my position, and I have always had an attacking mindset. Little did I know, the game today would completely change my mindset for the rest of my soccer career. I start the game as a forward, like usual.…
