Personal Narrative: My Summer Homework

Improved Essays
Hi everyone! In my previous blog post, I mentioned that I have summer homework that I have to do everyday. As I said in my last post, this is not necessary for all people to be successful, but I just feel like it helps my confidence the next year at school. In addition to doing summer homework, my mom also makes it a requirement for our summer. Of course, there are exceptions to doing the homework Like, I had a sleepover the night before and my friend ended up staying all day, or I have an intense summer camp that week. So, instead of me rambling about all of the different exceptions to not doing my homework, how about I tell you all about it!

To begin my work period I normally read my book for twenty minutes. My mom has two requirements

This is a sample of a lesson.

This is what it looks like when you get a question wrong. It also has explanations on why it is wrong.
When I am done with my ten minutes of French, I move on to my writing. I need to write for at least twenty minutes. Normally, during this time, I write blog posts for VarietyM. Once I had begun reading Red Scarf Girl, I had to write chapter summaries so I would not forget what I had read during the summer. I try to write a lot of blog posts and put them on a queue to be uploaded*.

When I am finished writing, it has officially been fifty minutes. Here is when I do my math. I have two options for how long I do my math as well. I can either work for fifteen minutes every day or thirty minutes every other day. I normally opt for the every day option unless I have an exceptionally busy week. I use Khan Academy to do my math. It is an exceptionally great resource because it actually teaches me what I need to learn through videos. Plus, they have more than just math courses offered. They have computer science and biology just to name a few. The best part of Khan Academy is that it is a completely free resource.

Reflection Over that three assignments above and the other assignments we have done over this quarter I have noticed a way of think and formating I do when starting a assignment. When starting an assignment I don't start or finish things in order I'll do the main requirements for what goes where and create how ever many pages it needs then I’ll Start the assignment in the middle where I'm doing the main most important part first. For example this project I started with the hard moments essay instead of a title screen just to get it out of the way. I've noticed I don't talk much in class, even though I used to always get in trouble in language arts and reading for talking because I hated those classes, but not speaking much in class doesn't mean I don't contribute to class. I think I contribute a good amount I volunteer for questions (Sometimes).…

As I mentioned in the previous assignment, I want to increase my baseline 500 steps each week so that by the end of the semester I am recording 10,000 steps which is in the active range. I will continue walking around the property at work and stepping in place whenever I possibly can. I will stick to walking to the mailbox which is two blocks from home as opposed to driving up to it on my way home. If I have days where I am tired I will just give myself another pep talk. I have a pretty good support system thus far so I will lean on them if pushing myself on my own does not cut it.…

Ever since I was child, writing has never been my strongest suit. Fortunately, this quarter I was able to pick up a few writing techniques while reading William Zinsser 's “The Transaction: Two Writing Processes" and Dianela Werner 's “Almost Time to Write, Almost Time…,” two essays which were about what methods of writing that worked for them. Both Zinsser and Werner’s essays about their writing methods enlightened myself on ways to improve my own. My writing mistakes has made me become a better writer as well. Two ways for writers to create effective essays is to manage their time efficiently and to revise their work.…

I think my writing process is procedural. Before writing, I will search online to view some materials related to my topic first. This can help me to expand my ideas. If I do not have any idea, I will communicate with others, such as friends, teachers and parents. Usually they will give me good suggestions.…

Writing is an art; we create our thoughts in your mind and express it on paper. Once we start writing we keep getting new ideas and when we re-read what we wrote, sometimes it might surprise us. I like to write during early mornings or in the evening when it is quiet. My reading table is facing towards the window so when fresh air is in my room, fresh ideas generate inside me as well. I make sure to have some healthy snacks and a bottle of water in front me…

It is widely believed the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s most prolific writing years were from 1780 to 1791. From 1780 to 1782, Mozart ‘s first two successful operas were composed and later, his most enduring operas would be written. There would be several years between these two opera’s and his last three operas created in the last couple years of his life Mozart’s opera career started in 1780 while still in Salzburg, but it was not until his break from the Archbishop Colorado’s service in 1780 that Mozart was able to create music for himself and the Vienna opera audience. After being relieved from Archbishop Colloredo’s service in Salzburg in 1780, Mozart, unsatisfied with Salzburg’s music, moved himself to Vienna where he felt he would be more…

I almost never know how to start a essay and it’s introduction, and this time is no different. So far I have sat in front of my computer and procrastinated for about two hours. The introduction is a difficult thing to write, so naturally I tend to wing it like most of my essays. I tend to write around midnight, it’s very quiet around the house and the outdoors…

Timed writing pieces are very challenging because writing the perfect piece is far from achievable. There’s always a feeling that you could’ve added more or read it one last time but sometimes time won’t prevail. Although, a perfect piece can be achievable through revision. I believe revising a piece with fresh eyes gives you a better perspective of your writing style and helps you choose things that will enhance your piece. Most of my revisions were not grammatical but for the need to add more substance.…

I grew up quickly last year and realized that I don't get to control the consequences of my actions. One of the other big things I learned as well is that I don't get to choose the consequences of other people's actions either. I learned things about myself that I'm glad I know but it was difficult for me to come to terms with until I had n choice but to face the deepest and darkest fears in my life. I Learned what it meant to be a grown up…

The writing process has four steps: planning, prewriting, drafting, and revising. No matter how I break up my process of writing, these four steps are the backbone to my writing techniques. I have a different approach to the traditional way of following the steps of the writing process. I look for a set environment, I brainstorm, create a finished product, and I have friends revise work. Here I will thoroughly discuss my writing process.…

I could actually have a life then instead of doing homework all day. I could participate in extracurricular activities like I used to when I participated in lacrosse, but now I can’t because my grades are slipping due to not finishing homework! I could do fun things instead of homework because it keeps me cooped up inside like a prisoner in a penitentiary cell and I hate it (“Too Much Homework, Too Little Time”, pg. 2)!” In conclusion, there are many reasons why students do not…

My time is consumed by my education and work life. I started using a weekly calendar to schedule my work days and figure out what days will be dedicated to each class and a time frame for each event. In my monthly calendar I could see my entire month planned out, so I would find days for time to myself or to socialize with family and friends. Before college, my life was all about socializing and my high school education. I did not have to concern myself with scheduling so often.…

“Under pressure she became a diamond, under pressure she became unbreakable,” [1] said R.H. Sin. It may sound ridiculous to work under pressure. However, in my opinion, working under pressure can create a great work --just like diamond-- it needs pressure to become beautiful. As an international student, I would like to say that it is very convoluted to write in another language, which is not the language I normally use back home.…
