I never thought I could be this excited about an air-conditioner, let alone see it as a thing of beauty. But this aircon? This was different. I’d made it myself.
What makes a summer at Phillips Exeter Academy special is the energy and excitement around learning… but man it was so hot! My first invention was a wind tunnel crafted from the finest bed sheets, laundry poles and masking tape - completely useless in the face of 30 degree heat and humidity. It was a problem I wanted to fix.
When my mates came back with clothes and souvenirs from a shopping trip to Boston, I returned with my Home Depot bag of copper tubing (to replace the plastic tubing I used on my first of three prototypes), insulation tape and a circulation pump.
