During the ceremony, I thought “will I be disappointed again?” The drum major did not get chosen at that moment. This time I was disappointed because of the hope I built up for such a grand moment. Eventually, the school year ended and summer began. Band camp started in the summer, and we still did not have a drum major. By now, everyone was desperate to know who was going to lead the band. The band director finally said, “Next week I will hold a drum major process to choose the new drum major.” I felt as if I had been revived in a desert that sucked the pure hydration out of my cells.
