Personal Narrative: My Strengths As A Role Model

Improved Essays
Introspectively examining my strengths I identified some of my personal strengths to be dependability, flexibility, and being a role model to others. Being dependable is one of my strengths as I pride myself on making sure I am there for everyone whenever they need me. My flexibility ties in hand with this, as I am always willing to modify my schedule in order to help others at moments notice. Finally, being a role model to others has always been a priority of mine, as a Learning Assistant for Biomedical Engineering courses, I work towards not only facilitating a small class but also being a role model student and leader. Being a Learning Assistant for the courses in my major gives me the opportunity to set a good example of how to be successful …show more content…
Looking at the different perceptions my friends have of me it was clear to me that they all view me as someone who is can be trusted with both personal information and daily personal needs. My friends also view me as some who is flexible and willing to modify my schedule to reach out and help them even when I may have something else to do. Finally, my friends understand and showed some admiration of who I am as a role model, a few even shared that they use me as a template for how the act which shows their confidence in me as a role …show more content…
Understanding and learning about how others see me as an individual helps to improve my ability to build on my weaknesses. Knowing that I present a very pessimistic attitude allows for me to correct my attitude and can help me build myself into a more optimistic leader that inspires confidence rather than doubt. Learning that I am often a braggart can help me improve my relationships with others by reducing the condescending image that I currently present. Being aware of the perceptions my friends have of me will help me improve who I am and who I want to be in a way that will make me someone people want to talk to or know; into someone people do not have to question if they should follow or trust but into someone they know will be a great friend and resource for the rest of their lives. The perceptions my friends shared with me will influence my leadership style as I see now that I need to be more vocal and outgoing, that I need to exude the same level of confidence that I expect my friends to display, that I need to be a better role model by being more supportive of others and more humble of my own

A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

One of the proudest achievements in my high school career was the way my team and I performed in the team build portion of the Skills USA competition. The Skills USA competition is a statewide competition in which high school and college students use the skills they learned from a vocational program to build a project in a limited time. My team and I were participating in the construction, team build where a team of four were given the blueprints to a small shed and given two days to complete the project. Before the competition starts the staff call all teams together and make changes to the plans, this is done so the judges can see who can adapt and overcome, and who will fall short. Competing against seventeen other high schools we were the…

An accomplishment that i'm very proud of is the way how i grew out of boy and into a man. When i first got into high school i was sort of overwhelmed with trying to fit in. I cared so much of trying to fit in within certain types of people, that I had lost focus on many things especially my grades and school. After noticing a enormous drop off of my grades and myself, I desperately tried to improve myself because i felt like i was disappointing my future self and my family. But because I tried to desperately try to improve myself anyway, I took big steps instead of little steps to help open the door of improvement.…

Starting with my strengths, I have always been athletic as I grew up playing almost every sport and acquired enough skills to do well in most other activities that may be new to me. I have assumed leadership roles on most of my sports team at one time or another, and in a number of projects at school. I do not see this as a huge strength at this time because my experience in leading as a teacher is fairly limited. However I hope to change this throughout this year with my multiple experiences in this class and others.…
