Personal Narrative: My Strength In High School

Improved Essays
When I first came to this school I would say that I was a weakling I could barely lift weights I got tired very fast. When I first started strength training all I did was 10 pounds on the bar which I knew was bad looking at all the other people and I wanted to get stronger like like my friends in Brown City. Halfway through first trimester I had to do bench press with my partners and I seen your head walked up to me and he said “why don't you try a plate.”

“I'll try but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to”. While trying to lift the bar Off the Bench plates on I was unable to so I needed a spot, I couldn't even bring the bar down and struggled to try and put it back on the bench. I had tried so hard to lift it but in the end could not and the senior said “don't hurt yourself if you can't do now give

So throughout the school year I worked extremely hard pushing myself harder than most my partners though I still think I could have tried a lot harder and trimester 2 by the end of trimester 2 I was able to do a set of two with 40.

During trimester 3 I had slipped up a bit but three weeks in 2 trimester 3 I'd push myself even harder than both trimester 1 & 2 combined. i was to the point where it hurt to move and push through the pain never lost sight of the goal I was trying to reach. I had finally gotten to my goal of bench pressing 45 pounds but that wasn't enough, I wanted to complete a complete set a 45 so going up I'd gone from just barely lifting the bar to being able to do a set of six maybe even more.
5 in the last couple weeks of school I went and talked to the same senior that I had tried to get me to do 45 pounds in the beginning of the year. I had told him that I had reach my goal I don't know if he was proud or not but either way I felt good knowing that I had got into my goal. I will shoot to go even higher next year in my sophomore

No matter how hard I squeezed the bar and held on, I always dropped the bar three-quarters of the up. I was about to quit then I remembered that I might have a bit of leftover chalk in my bag. So I grabbed the chalk, chalked up my hands and tried again. Just like that I was able to set a new personal deadlift record at 405 pounds. Since I have starting powerlifting, I have integrated the values into my life such as putting all my effort and working hard towards my goals and also just like how I have to come up with innovative ways to train, I come up with innovative ways to succeed in…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

During the four week fitness log I was able to achieve most of my goals. The first goal I achieved was being able to lift 115 lbs on the leg extension. I accomplished this goal within the first two weeks. By the end of week three, I slowly made my way to 10 reps of 115 lbs constantly. I believe that doing squats, wall-sit, and other leg workouts increased my ability to achieve the goal.…

Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Those of which include never procrastinate, think about your future, learn how to manage your time, and do not settle for less than your best. My first recommendation is that you don’t procrastinate.…

My Struggle with Weight and Body Image Although I have always been considered small, my weight has always fluctuated beyond what is considered to be in the normal range of 1 to 2 pounds. The heaviest I have ever been is 123 pounds and I hit that as a freshman in college, unlike most individuals, I was my second heaviest as a freshman in high school. As a three sport athlete I ate whatever I wanted thinking that I could burn it off on the field and being bigger, muscle-wise was better. At the time food was more important that what I looked like and I felt stronger weighing on the higher end of the 110s than the lower end, and accepted the extra body fat that came with my diet and muscle. At some point as a sophomore I started to care more…

My goal during the semester was to increase my physical activity, more specifically my aerobic activity. I committed to either jogging or engaging in elliptical training 3 days a week, 30 minute a session. I planned to accomplish this by purchasing the necessary equipment, running shoes, workout clothes, and scheduling time committed to exercise. Ultimately, I was partially successful, and as a result, my real age dropped from 38.4 years old to 36.5.…

As a person the greatest test or challenge that has altered and molded me into the person I am today is to learn how not to be intimidated by something that is large or “scary”. It could be anything a person, a test, a grade, or even a thought. This helps me with everything in life because if you're not frightened you can focus on things that matter. For example, when I’m playing sports and a competitor is big and scary naturally someone would be afraid to play against them but, you do not have a clue who they are or what skill sets they have.…

(Disclaimer: This will be quite a long post. If you do read until the end, just know that results and steps may vary :D) By now some of you already know that I’ve been working out for and today marks the 3rd month, but what some of you don’t know is that I don’t have a trainer, I go by my own pace while doing this in our garage, using only 2 DB’s that range from 5-52.5lbs and a Bowflex Cable Pulley Station. I’m no expert which means I won’t be going in depth, but that doesn’t mean I can’t share the steps I took to get where I am now. Also, I told Sandra that I was going to post some sort of motivational thing.…
