We visited and had family over and I watched my mom prepare dinner for a small during Thanksgiving. I hated that during Thanksgiving I would watch my mother would put this ginormous turkey in the oven at night and then I would go to bed expecting that I could help, or at least watch when she resumed, only for me to wake up and find that the entire dinner was just about complete. I don’t know if she prepared dishes during the week or if she only pretended to go to bed so that I could get out of her way, probably the latter, but she prepared it all with no help. The tradition was that my mom would slave for hours, sleep for minutes, and serve everyone at dinner time; I definitely inherited that from her. Christmas was smaller, the siblings would come by to collect gifts and grab something to eat but there was still a tremendous sense of family, those were the best times of the year.…

The next week it was my mom mom’s and we had made arrangements for the bus to pick me up there. Then the worst I had to stay with my cousins for a whole month. My parents would come home at random times just to see me because they knew how hard it had been. It had been hard because whenever my brother would come home he would be rushed back up to Pennsylvania for emergencies. So it had been easier for me to just stay out at someone’s house.…

I managed to inch close enough to touch one of the fauns before they were scared off by the others returning. That night I had to sleep alone in my tent because my friend’s dad had stayed after Thursday and he was sleeping with him. I barely slept and woke up at four A.M. to take a shower and wait for everyone else to wake up so that we could leave. I finally arrived home at noon on July fourth and I did not leave the house for a week. Although my overall uneasiness for the camp remained, I went back to Hohn another four times throughout my career in Boy Scouts.…
