Personal Narrative: My Spiritual Autobiography

Decent Essays
One obstacle to my writing my spiritual autobiography was addressed in the book Memoirs of the Soul and the name of the obstacle is “Procrastination”. “Tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll really sit down and write. Next week. Next Year. After I do the dishes, mow the lawn, fix the faucet, watch a TV show.” This chapter spoke loudly to me because since 2004 I have been proclaiming to anyone and everyone who will listen that I plan to publish all the litanies I have written over the years. I presently have about forty litanies for almost every occasion in the life of the church. I have been writing litanies now for over twenty-five years. It is truly time for me to stop procrastinating and do the work necessary to have my litanies published. Prayerfully,

In today's society the average person goes through high school, then repeats the cycle through college, gets their degree and goes out into the “real world”. They meet someone, have a family and move out to the suburbs. That is the path that most americans take throughout their long journey in life. Contradictory to that some of the wealthiest people took the risk of taking their own path and profited very well from it. “Have the courage to follow your own heart and intuition” (Steve Jobs).…

I have heard your pleas and am pleased to hear about your pursuit of religion. While I would be gladly willing to give you that opportunity, I cannot. I have heard from some of your fellow voyagers of your tyranny actions while exploring throughout these newly found lands. I am happy to hear of your success in finding lands, but I am not glad to hear about the way you have treated their people. The goal was to discover new places, not to ruin them.…

Neglecting Religion Family trips, vacations and roadtrips are always a fun thing to do with family. Even if it’s just going out of town for the day, going camping for the weekend or even leaving the State or Country for a few days or weeks. When going on these trips, you usually expect the best of it and don’t seem to think of the negatives, like something terrible happening. I myself have been on family vacation and roadtrips many times before. My family and I always have a great time when going on these trips and never expect or try to think of anything bad happening.…

I’ve listened to Messiah since I was very young. My grandmother is very fond of baroque music, and has about a dozen different versions of Messiah, let alone any other pieces. Because I’ve listened to so many versions of it for so many years, I know a quite a bit about what the piece sounds like or at least what it should sound like. The instrumental backdrop of the piece is predominantly homophonic and is founded on the combination of smooth strings, gentle woodwinds, and strong brass in a elegant, precise-sounding melody at a brisk tempo. However when the various parts of the choral sections are added, it becomes a more technically complicated and sophisticated-sounding polyphonic mix of melodies and harmonies.…

Chaos, darkness, and demons surrounded me after my entrance into the below. The light, of which I was so accustomed to, was no longer standard rather an abnormality in the devilish expanse. But I could expect nothing else of this accursed place made for the insidious, insane, and inhumane. While I was no angel in my time above ground, I definitely did not fall under these categories. No, it was not what I did in my time on land that sent me to where the devil roams, rather it was what I did as a spirit held between the two divine realms that led me to this…

The Unknown Religion The sun was out, the air was warm, it was the perfect Sunday and my family and I were getting ready to leave for the Gurdwara, also known as the Sikh temple. Ever since my brother and I were children, our parents instilled a weekly routine of attending our local temple every Sunday afternoon. Although some children might say it was boring to sit for ninety minutes listening to hymns, and sermons, I enjoyed going to the Gurdwara. After the sermons, we ate langar, which was a free meal welcome to all, where I was able to eat great food, socialize with my friends, and do seva.…

When you only get to see your 2nd family 5 time a year, you cherish every moment you spend with them. To me youth group is more than just a place to learn about religion, it’s about a sense of community and the close bonds you share with each other after surviving another event on four hours of sleep. The first time I had an extended experience with religion was during my first year of high school. Many of the students at Trinity were different than I was. They had gone to Catholic schools their entire life and had grown up with religion, which was not a lifestyle I was used to. As a child, a specific religion was never instilled upon me. Of course, the concept of morality and other teachings typically associated with religion, such as humility, were fundamental lessons in my household.…
