Personal Narrative: My Sophomore Year Of College

Decent Essays
For my sophomore year of college, I decided to transfer schools. I went from Augustana University in Sioux Falls to Dordt College. A big part of that decision was impacted by my love of running. I did not have a good experience running cross country at Augustana. I wanted to continue to run during college, so my only option was to go to a different school. Dordt had a good running program and a comparable science program, but it would be more expensive than Augustana. In the end, the benefits outweighed the costs and I made the decision to transfer. I was worried about the extra financial burden, but this scholarship helped to offset some of the extra cost. I am very glad I decided to transfer. This previous year at Dordt was a great year.

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

I decided to attend Community College of Rhode Island for a few different reasons. Being an underpaid teenager with my own car, location is a big deal for me. The Liston campus is only 4 miles from my house and takes about 7 minutes to get there. I appreciate how there are numerous campuses around the state and via computer. Distance learning classes not only save me gas, but push me to self-motivate and manage my time wisely.…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

During my freshsman year of highschool, I made a long term goal to become the cross country captain by senior year. I listened to the upperclassmen on the team and took their advice as I matured throughout each season. I understood that in order to become captain of the team I would have to work my tail off. The obstacles that stood in the way included competition between other schools and whether or not I would put work in during the offseason. The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

Descending acceptance rate inspired me to focus on what I wanted to accomplish, despite how uncomfortable I felt. My Junior year of high school was my challenging year, the reason to that is because we had to study for our Act also we had our grad MCAs to take. I must say it was really difficult knowing that we had those two big major tests in the same week. The amount of studying was ridiculous but in my head for a whole two months I was reminding myself that it will benefit me in the future that I need this to graduate.
