Personal Narrative: My Sophomore Year In High School

Decent Essays
In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

Everyone changes at least once during their time in high school. Over the last few years, I have been through a variety of challenges. God has blessed me with an amazing four years of learning; not only just in school, but also in life. One can only make so many mistakes before he or she learns from them. Through my experience as an assistant coach of my school's kindergarten-6th grade cross country team, I was able to truly learn what it was like to be a leader. As with most groups of small children, there are always a few who don't want to follow directions. I had to be able to control the situation professionally and quickly, so the others didn't follow the bad example. I had to lead by example to achieve the best results. This experience allowed me to learn my leading style and to develop myself as a more well-rounded person.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

During my freshman year, I participated in teaching in the cheer clinic. I was assigned certain younger kids and taught them cheers and chants for football games. By standing up in front of the little kids, I lead them through the motions and set an example of what it should look like. I showed characteristics of leadership by remaining optimistic and not getting frustrated with the younger kids, and also by the responsibility of making sure they each knew the cheer and by watching over them. This is one example of how I showed leadership at school.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. My sophomore year was one of the most difficult years of my high school career, during that summer my grandmother was in and out of the hospital for a variety of ailments in particular the most recent a heart attack. Later that year, I had gotten really ill and for the longest time diagnosis was undetermined. The symptoms were unbearable to the point where when I laughed it resulted in tears. I was referred to several pediatric doctors and specialists, finally after a couple of weeks one of the specialists for pediatric infectious diseases announced the news to my parents and myself that my left lung had completely collapsed, filled with fluids and my body was relying on my right lung to do most of the work to fully function properly. I missed over half of the entire school year and it affected my life immensely.…
