When I was six, I asked my mom if I could play soccer. I really wasn’t the type of girl that wanted to get dirty. My typical days consisted of playing dress up, doing cartwheels, and playing with my dolls. As I asked my mom if I could play, she gave me a very unexpected look. I started to push harder in practice and give it my all. I volunteered when there was a demonstration. Sometimes I wasn’t good at what needed to be demonstrated but I still tried. My anxiety of being nervous started to shrink as small as a bug. We won state that year, we were the Champions.
The next season came and that is when my work had really payed off.
“Jace, can you come here a second,” my coach had said to me one day after a hot and sweaty practice, “After watching you these first couple weeks in the season, I would like to give you a varsity jersey. You have showed hard work and have improved enormously over the year. Congratulations.” My heart was racing, pounding through my chest. I couldn’t believe what had just came out of his mouth. I just stood there for a while, shocked by what he had said. I rushed home and had a smile as big as an elephant on my face when I walked in the door. My mom was in the kitchen making supper and my dad was at the dining room table. “I made the team! I made the team!” I said excitedly with the biggest smile on my face.
“I knew you’d make it Jace. See, hard work does pay off”, said my dad who also had a smile on his
