My parents divorced when I was only three months old, and ever since then I have been going back and forth between two homes and two families. Up until my mom remarried in 2012, my parents fought consistently. As a kid, I learned to cope by ignoring the arguments as best as I could; eventually, the fighting became routine and I grew accustomed to it.
After my mom remarried, things calmed down for a little while; home was suddenly a peaceful place to be. I had heard them fighting on and off some nights but had never thought that they would separate. One day when I came home from school my mom told me that my dad had moved out. I found out that my dad had gotten a trailer that he had found in a trailer park about five miles away from my Mom’s house. I would go to visit him every other weekend at his new trailer for about a year. This was how the first year of my mom and dad being divorced went until he found a new place on Green Street of Lancaster city.…

Growing up, conflict was something I always viewed in a negative manner. It was to be avoided at all costs, and whenever it did occur, it would usually destroy me. The more I have grown, the more I have realized that conflict is key to development, and that our world needs it to survive. I recently sat down and made a list of the ways I handle conflict in both a beneficial and negative manner. It seems that I have more negative qualities in conflicting situations, but these can be fixed by learning more about conflict itself.…

One time where I had to be a leader and help others out was when my field hockey team and I were facing our biggest opponent of the season; Columbus Academy. The whole entire game was an upfield battle as both teams were very skilled and kept each other on their toes. As the game went on, I saw that many of the girls on my team were becoming very frustrated, as the hard work they were putting in got shot down by the other team. When it reached the end of the game, the score had been a tie; 0-0. This resulted in an overtime 7 vs. 7 game.…

    Example Of Labeling Theory

Labeling Theory The labeling theory of sociology holds that deviance is not defined by the act itself, but by “the tendency of society to negatively label individuals who choose to step outside of cultural norms” (Becker). This theory is concerned with how the labels used to describe or classify can affect an individual’s self-identity and social behavior. Perhaps the most common form of labeling is stereotyping, which can be defined as “a standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group” (Applebaum et.…

My parents divorced and remarried before I was five years old. Fortunately, I wasn’t wrenched from a stable home life, like many children with divorced parents, because multiple households are the only thing I can remember. My main problem, however, was coping with two drastically different parenting styles. An average Saturday at my father’s house consisted of three hours of yard work after breakfast before I could play with my friends. My mother let me sleep late, and if she had work for me to do, I could earn extra chore money.…

    Stress Theory

The last point that I want to touch on is that many children struggle with feeling neglected because there’s more people in their house and also in their life. “Stress theory hypothesizes that changes, such as divorce, remarriage, relocation or unemployment redefine family roles” (Gennetian, 2005). Stress is hard for children to understand and know how to handle, I know many adults that still don’t understand how to manage their stress levels. Children are not going to understand what stress is and how to make it go away because most children don’t experience anything that would have a high stress impact. Unless there experiencing all the stress that is going on in their household and how much is changing around them because mom or dad got…
