It was the first time I have ever seen a student say no to a teacher and not give in when threatened with discipline. In this placement, I am continuing to see how important classroom management is. During the time at my placement so far, I have notice that on average day during notes about only half of the class is actually taking notes. The other half is listening to music, sleeping, playing video games, just sitting there, or having a conversation with a friend. Every day it continues to amaze me because growing up my classes were never like that. After witnessing this it makes me think about what caused this to get so bad. Was it my host teacher not being strict enough? Did she try to be more of a fun/friend type of teacher at the beginning of the year? Is the discipline system not harsh enough? Do the students actually not care? If they don’t care, why don’t they care? How could the classroom management get better? Does my teacher realize how bad it is? Would the students do better in a non-traditional education system? How much of this is being effected by the students’ home life? This placement experience relates a lot about to what I have been learning about in class. I think this problem can relate to the readings from class about teacher’s love for teaching, students not be engaged/ interested in class, school-to-prison pipeline, curriculums in school, the student-teacher relationship, and social issues. Overall, I am still enjoying my placement because I am learning a lot about how to handle tough situations and how I would run my
