Throughout my scholastic journey, I have been able to write many interesting essays. This includes research essays, persuasive essays, and many creative writing essays. Although I may not be able to remember most of the essays that I have written in middle school and high school, I can definitely recall a few from my senior year of high school and my first years of college. One essay I can think of immediately is my “That Thing” essay from senior year of high school. The essay was based on a song called “That Thing” by Lauryn Hill. Another one of the essays I wrote was a research essay on whether or not Pro League of Legends players should be considered pro athletes. One of the first pieces we read, David Foster Wallace’s essay Consider the Lobster, is about an annual state lobster festival. Although an inane subject, Wallace was able to dance around and through the topic while going on tangents that were sometimes pages long. My essay, for example, started with my having to pick a fantasy Premier League team then, eventually, discussed Brexit and its implications on the international stage, both political and soccer. Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle, featured in my second essay of the portfolio, takes an interesting position with the perspective of the narrator as a minor character.…

My parents have said to work hard and do my best in school. I never understood why until I got older. The reason they told me to do my best in school was because they wanted me to think about school and my future. Both of my parents didn't get the chance to go to college. They both came to the United States looking for what most people come to the United States for ‘The American Dream’, they wanted a place where they could raise their children and find a stable job.…

Though I’m still developing my legacy, I like to think that most people who know me, regardless of how well, consider me a person that can put a smile on nearly any face. From my time in high school as photo studio assistant getting babies to giggle on camera to my work as a personal trainer cracking jokes to help clients through the worst parts of their workouts; I learned that a little laughter can improve any situation. While this is a fairly simple impact to have on people, I do believe that it’s a powerful one. My own experiences with bereavement, chronic ill health and periods of poor mental health have shown me the value of a person that puts in the effort and time to get a smile out of someone. Though happiness is a pretty fleeting…
