Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

We have models that we can follow that can give the best methods for treating, assessing, and teaching children with special needs. Principal G regards doing whatever is possible to safeguard a child’s well being, whether emotionally, physically, mentally, and psychologically. As teachers we have the responsibility to discourage and punish anything that harms the child. Principal H states that we as well must refrain from any behavior that harms the child. Principal I…
Going through small private schools in a little town since I was in kindergarten has set me up for very few cultural experiences but my parents never wanted my siblings and I to grow up like this. When my family goes on vacation my mom always tries to fully submerge us in the culture around us. For example, a few years ago, my family and I went on a vacation in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. We stayed in a nice resort and it was never necessary to leave the property if you didn’t want to. Most people never did.…
In addition, they always maintained their cultural identity and ensured they passed on their traditions even though they moved to a predominantly European neighborhood. These traditions were evident in their family gatherings, traditional…
Starting a first assignment can be enjoyable yet nerve wrecking, as when it involves researching yourself on "Google". it doesn't seem to help either Being a beginner to online classes, Its quite Intimidating .Its comforting of being slightly used to the computer, as my past job experience has been mostly at call centers, in front of lucent screen. When I vigoursly research myself I expect to find past photos which I probably never knew existed, maybe a my space account, sadly abandoned as I matured through the years without it. What I did find though surprisingly did not surprise me .…
Growing up, my Native American ancestry was made apparent to me by my grandmother. Of course my mother’s appearance, with her long dark brown hair, tanned skin tone and her deep brown eyes led me to assume my ancestors heritage, but it was my grandmother who introduced me to the native rituals. Rituals such as the burning of sage to cast off negative entities, and the making of dream catchers each year on my birthday. My native american descent is the Delaware Valley Indians. This Nation of Indians is part of the Algonquian Culture that has a teaching that predates the Biblical Noah's flood and the Matriarchal system of Native Ancestry therefore recognizes both father or mother in relations.…
American: A native or a citizen of the United States. I am not a first, second or third generation American, I am simply an American. I was born here in the United States in Augusta, Georgia. When I first came here in Canada, I had no friend or family that I could rely on, so I was so eager to get new friends to gain a sense of belonging. That was the time I hung out with some international students. We were partying, playing billiards and staying up all night. I enjoyed it at first because I felt like home, with friends having fun together, but it didn’t last for long. I started to realize the parties took over my life, but I knew if I stopped hanging around with them, they would kick me out of the “group”.…
Having a community where you can lean back on is one of the most important things that I have had in my life. The community I have always been involved in is sports but the one that impacted me the most was a community called drop-in soccer. Drop-in soccer is where different teams will play against each other every Tuesday and Thursday. I was invited to play on one of the teams by my assistant head coach from my high school soccer.…
There’s an odd, reality-altering sensation that occurs when one is positioned in a place that doesn’t have a definitive purpose outside of it’s relationship to a following action. Airports, parking lots, and waiting rooms are a few examples of these places called “liminal spaces”. Because they lack familiar context, our brains deem them dangerous. Knowing otherwise, we’re left with a feeling of curious wariness and expectant unease. This rush of adrenaline and abruption of butterflies is what I experience when I look up into the night sky.…
