Personal Narrative: My Run

I watched with golden eyes as it all changed without warning, as fate grasped my surroundings with her cold, merciless hands. My mind whirred, searching for thoughts to silence the words I didn't want to hear. Three pairs of crimson glowing eyes watched me, mimicking the color of the blood that pooled around Dad's limp, lifeless form. Run. Run. Get away from there. My thoughts struggled to replace the words I couldn't believe.

Grabbing my sister's wrist, I ran. Pulling her behind me, I ran, but I knew there was nowhere safe in this house anymore. Enma's little legs moved as quickly as they could behind me, but even then, the cloaked silhouettes were behind us and keeping up without a problem. Faster. Run faster! I couldn't. My legs wouldn't go any faster, nor would Enma's. Run! Get away!

The door. I had to get to the door. We had to get out of the house. I ran, pulling Enma behind me. We weren't far, but the creatures were right behind us now, grasping at the back of our shirts trying to pull us back. Safety was within our sight, and my hand reached to grasp the brass handle, but I felt a tug at my shirt. Sharp black claws tried to pull me back, dragging me

Pain shot through my spine, my mind going blank from the shock and fear of it all. A large claw had been raked down the whole of my back, leaving uneven shreds in my skin. I could only fall to the ground, shivering at the cold of the tile floor against my stomach. The clothes didn't protect me from the sharp cold of the ground, leaving me lying there as blood slowly pooled around me and laughed at me. It laughed at how weak I was, mocking my limp body to the best of it's abilities. It did pretty well, and I couldn't help but smile a bit. I felt tears running down my cheeks as I lay there, my lips curled into a cold, hopeless, dying smile. Everything started to fade, growing darker and

The adrenaline was pumping through my veins and I couldn’t stop despite the fact that my lungs felt as if there were icy shards lodged in my chest. Haunted figures of the men that destroyed my life as I knew it flashed before my eyes as I lept over crates and pushed down trash cans behind me, my path marked by a riddled maze of rotted food and old possessions. The tears in my eyes were no longer tears, but streaks of moisture…

It was dark but not pitch black, there was sunlight peeking through the window, which was covered with wood that you can tell the person who placed it there was too short to reach the top part of the window. The sun had spotlighted the door as though it was destiny calling. I didn't know where I was or how I got there which drove my nerves crazy. My mouth was covered with what seemed to be 100 layers of duct tape which left my mouth tingling with the unpleasant taste. Both my hands were tied together with rope very securely behind an old wooden chair, my blood in both my hands felt as though it was trapped which caused me to feel the sensation of fireworks in them.…

There once was a girl, fettered to a wall ever since she was young. There was no one guarding her, taking control of her, or feeding her, yet she felt no hunger. She would not holler for help or even call out for a savior as she felt as though everything was pointless in the world she was in. Her only friends were the the little sanity she had left and the darkness that kept her hidden from society. The rusted chains simply pierce the thin skin of her wrists ever so slightly as the chains held her body from the ground.…

I turned quickly and tried to run in the opposite direction back home. The blisters forming on my hard, bare feet were agonising as I continued to run to my body’s limit. I was stopped once again though, as the tracker and his horse stood in my way. Before I could turn to run in the opposite direction again, I felt the hot breath of the white man on the back of my neck and a set of hot, sweaty hands grab my shoulders from behind and pick up my small body off of the hard, rocky earth. I looked in the man’s eyes and saw no glimmer of hope as I realised that the chase was now over and I had been caught.…

The inside of the forest was darker than either of us had originally anticipated, so Ethan and I had reached for our phones in order to get at least some light. The faint glow illuminated a small patch of the area in front of us which caused some small rodents to run from the dim illumination. I turned to Ethan and he said that we should keep moving in order to prevent us from being spotted without any way to escape. We wandered through the dark murk for another 5 minutes until we came across a small well, crumbling and overgrown with vines.…
