Personal Narrative: My Role As A Resident Assistant

Decent Essays
I am interested in a position in residence life because I admire the vial role residence life plays in the Monmouth College community. The impact that residence life has is far beyond the residence halls. They behavior they teach and encourage extends to the way students behave on campus and off campus. Being apart of an intricate system like this appeals to me because with the role I would play as an RA would would have an impact on more than just the people in my hall. I believe that the role of an Resident Assistant is to make sure residents feel comfortable, welcomed, and most importantly safe. In order to do these things an RA must be a reliable, trustworthy, and approachable person. Having these qualities go hand in hand with the role

I believe the key responsibility for a Residential Assistant is to build an effective community. To create a positive and productive community, residential assistants should be open, disciplined, and compassionate. Living in a society that is comprised of people from different cultural and social backgrounds, it is important for a RA to emphasize an open environment. An open environment will allow residents to feel secure and comfortable to express themselves, and it will protect individualities of each student.…

I anticipate my lifestyle changing a small bit, if I was to become a Residential Assistant. Although the position of being an RA comes before any other commitments, I feel that it will still be possible to balance my social life and continually see my friends. The only main change I foresee is that I will have to watch how I act and what I say. I need to set an example and be a role model. People cannot do that if they act irresponsibly and negatively with their friends or residents.…

I enjoy building meaningful relationships and helping people achieve their goals. I would like to be able to guide students through their college experience and encourage them to get involved on campus. Getting involved, especially in the Setters Leadership Program, helped me feel comfortable here at Pace and helped me make new friends. I think I could assist new students with the transition of coming into college and encourage students to work hard while finding their forever friends and making Pace their new home.…

These RA’s focus more on how being an RA can only benefit them and not the residents they are supposed to be looking after. Unsuccessful RA’s do not pose good communication skills or people skills as I call them. They might be hard for a resident to approach with a problem or something that is bothering them. I believe that my communication skills will be my best attribute when it comes to being an RA. I am a person who is very easy to talk to, I am not afraid to put myself out there in order to gain someone’s trust.…

I admired the nurse that took care of my aunt up to this day and hold them in high respect. I invested hours in their office whenever I visited my aunt in the moments of her surgery or to pick up her medicines. Few years later, I had been volunteering at a local hospital, this made me fully realize the hard work nurses put in their work line. My overall experience with the nurses that I encountered was positive. In my senior of high school, I took a course on health and human anatomy.…

St. Paul said in his first letter to the Corinthians: “And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor,....but do not have love, it profits me nothing.” If one possesses courage, wisdom, transcendence, justice, and moderation, but does not possess humanity, then the other traits mean nothing. The word “humanity” comes from the Latin humanitas, which means “human nature” or “kindness.” Humanity means showing charity toward all people and recognizing the human dignity of every person, regardless of age, disability, or stage of life. One of the best ways to promote humanity is to lead by example.…
