Personal Narrative: My Role As A Nurse Educator

As a case manager, my contribution as a leader is in the coordination of care in utilizing the efficient and effective use of resources. According to the American Case Management Association (ACMA) (2017), “the goal of case management is to maintain optimal patient health status across the continuum of care in a manner that emphasizes both individual control over decisions and stewardship of resources” (para. 12). Some of the functions of a case manager are in clinical assessment, care coordination, patient education, counseling, case monitoring, discharge planning, resource management, and patient advocacy. I believe that a nurse educator contributes to the strengthening of the future nursing workforce by providing leadership, mentorship, and implement evidence-based practice. As a nurse educator, I will prepare a high-quality educational curriculum and experience, by integrating the theories learned in the classroom will be applied to practice, therefore, the students will be confident with their knowledge and skills and prepare them for the future of the health care. To accomplish this idea, I need to identify their learning needs, strengths, and weaknesses and at the same time to sustain their strengths and conquer their limitation through learning opportunities. In addition, I want the students to have a learning experience where they can collaborate with other health professionals in multidisciplinary rounds and research opportunity. Nurses should achieve higher levels of education and training through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression per the IOM (National Academy of Sciences, 2010). As a nurse educator and a leader, excellent communication skill is needed, with a strong clinical experience and critical thinking, be open and flexible to various learning styles and innovative ways of teaching methods, and be a lifelong learner (Lynch,
