Personal Narrative: My Role As A Dental Assistant

During my time as a volunteer in the Union Gospel Mission, I realized how crucial each individual’s role is towards the team. Our collective mission is to provide dental care for underserved communities, but this cannot be done without the collective effort of each person in our team. The dentist is obviously a key figure in our team, but so are the assistants, hygienist and the front desk manager. We each have a very crucial role in our team and would not be as effective serving the patient without each other. As a volunteer, I was responsible for the duties of a dental assistant. Together, with other volunteers, we made sure the clinic was running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. If one volunteer was assisting the dentist chairside,
