Personal Narrative: My Robotics Team Of Slidell High

Improved Essays
After years of convincing myself that the robotics team of Slidell High was an organization unfit for me, I finally overcame my robotic-phobia and enlisted. The team moved with a rhythm unmatched by any other team, grinding and welding and programming without bounds. The finest gumbo of human achievement, the robotics team accepted my flavor unwaveringly. Although I felt that I was needed with the labeling and organizing, I had no particular impact on the gumbo until computer science discovered me.
Programming, that hidden language of the universe that ranges from DNA to cellphones, instilled into me newfound awe at the complexity of life. After exposure to programming in my robotics class, I carried my passion home, programming on my Dell

Not only did the students have to make smart decisions when budgeting, but they had to work hard into getting a eight hundred dollar worth robot to beat a robot that was worth more than twelve times theirs was in a competition. The computer science teacher at Carl Hayden, Allan Cameron, was the teacher sponsoring Carl Hayden’s robotics program this year. My years in high school were quite thrilling and adventurous. Starting as a freshman, I had no idea where I was going and what was going to be expected of me. Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. These clubs stayed with me till I graduated high school and I have loved them ever since I got involved in them.…

The years of high school are some of the most important for many. The events of that brief moment can shape the future of many in unexpected ways, whether it be for better or worse. As a high school student, I have yet to see just how the choices I make even now will shape the future, but I can see them gradually taking root. The studies, classes, and other activities that I have taken have presented a different way to look at the world and increase my knowledge, giving new options for later in life that I may have never considered. One of the most impacting events though, is most likely my time in the VEX Robotics Competition.…

While learning things here and there from my teammates, I was fascinated by what they could do and what programming was all about. These students seemed to be geniuses to me, they knew exactly how to make each object in their game or program move or pop up perfectly. By the end of the event I was so tired from staying awake looking at computer screens for 24 hours that all I wanted to do was get on the road and go back home. Looking back on HackRU…

I am Elizabeth Taylor, I am a senior at Mission Springs High School. I am seventeen years of age. I am the oldest of seven grandchildren and three siblings, so you can imagine how much pressure is on me to be the “perfect role model” for the younger generations. I had a pretty good life, if I could say so myself. Besides my Dad deciding to take himself out of my life simply because my family wasn’t enough for him might have been a bit of a downer, but other then that life is good.…

Though I am not even half way through my high school career, I feel as if I can still be a help to those who are just beginning. High school is probably the most important part of your life that you are responsible for in our teenage years, so it is important not to mess it up. There are a few concepts that I have figured out by myself that I wished someone would have told me. Those of which include never procrastinate, think about your future, learn how to manage your time, and do not settle for less than your best. My first recommendation is that you don’t procrastinate.…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

Programming has always come pretty easily to me and I have never had any problems picking up a new programming language but that was in the classroom. I was about to dive in to the deep end so to speak and I wasn’t completely sure I could stay above water. I found myself in a strange looking room surrounded by factory lines and strange machines I would soon know well called the demo room. The silence was broken with a “Top of the morning to ya!” as I turned to see my supervisor Eoin, and one of the other interns Tyler who had started a two weeks ahead of me.…

Another reason I chose computer science is because computers are shaping the direction our world takes and I want to play a part in that. The idea of writing a program that helps a physicist decode the secrets of the universe or a doctor discover a cure for a serious disease holds great appeal for me. Computer science is a continually growing field and with computers becoming involved in almost every aspect of our lives it should remain so for the foreseeable future. Thanks to computer chips imbedded in everything from basketballs and shoes to computer-controlled thermostats more and more computerized data is being produced daily and to manage the acquisition, storage and use of this data will require computer scientists [1]. While sending jobs overseas will slow some aspects of computer science-related job growth overall computer science jobs are expected to continue growth through 2020 [3], [4], [5].…

Though clumsy at first, I eventually became proficient at coding through rigorous practice and diligence. About three years ago, I started my journey as a student pursuing Electronics Engineering at the esteemed Vivekanand Education Society’s Institute of Technology (VESIT) and I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I say that this completely changed my outlook towards life. Initially, most my efforts were directed towards studying the courses I had undertaken and keeping in touch with recent breakthroughs in the field of Electronics through the ‘Electronics for You’ magazine and ‘How Stuff Works’ website. When I was introduced to subjects like ‘Communication Skills’ in my 2nd semester, I started overcoming my prolonged fear of public speaking.…
