Personal Narrative: My Responsibilities To America

Decent Essays
I, as well as the rest of America, have multiple responsibilities to America. She has given me freedom, rights, and liberties, that citizens elsewhere do not have. I have the freedom to present my opinion, vote for my leaders, and freedom to practice my own religion with protection to do so. These rights, along with many others, were not given to me for free. Many courageous men and women have died in order for me to have these rights. America is often called land of the free and home of the brave, while this is accurate, we are also land of the free because of the brave.
I have a responsibility as a citizen of the United States to appreciate everything that the generations before me have sacrificed and done to make our country as amazing

America is the land of the free, because of the brave. Americans enjoy many freedoms because of the democracy our ancestors fought very hard to establish. Freedom summarizes what being an American is about, but it’s not what an American is. An American is someone who is brave enough to do something even though the punishment is severe, someone who sees opportunity and stops at nothing to achieve it, and someone who doesn’t take the easy way out. Bravery is part of the definition of an American.…

I see my responsibility to America as the same as most people. Most people believe they know their responsibility to America is by paying taxes and obeying the laws that are in place so the country runs smoothly, however, most people are also wrong. The real responsibility we have to America is making it a better place by lowering the number of hate crimes committed, decreasing the poverty rates and decreasing our personal debt. There are no logical reasons as to why hate crimes are still occurring everywhere in the United States because we’re all apart of the same country and we pride ourselves on our diversity as a nation. The United States of America was formerly looked at as the greatest country in the world and we’ve let that title slip…

Visions are only unique as the individual themselves who make up this country. America is not the same as it was ten years ago. Who would have thought that we would have cell phones that were similar to a small computer in our pocket, a car that could talk back to us, or that we would have an African American president? Our visions for America could change everyday. My vision for America is very unique for my age group.…

“Land of the free home of the brave.” What does that mean? For those from third world countries it means an opportunity to start a new life; free from government oppression and the opportunity to make a better life for themselves through work and education. For Citizens who only know this country; we think of our rights such as the first amendment, freedom of speech the right to say (almost) anything we want, practice any religion we choose, protest any political changes we think necessary. With all that being said as a citizen we ought to feel more than a sense of self entitlement, there should also be a sense of duty.…
