Personal Narrative: My Relationship With Stroke Survivor

My application would be incomplete without my volunteer experience with the Stroke Survivor Befriending Program. Volunteering with a stroke survivor has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences that has shaped who I am today and has influenced my choice to want to become a midwife.

Since February 2016, I have been committed to volunteering with a kind and determined stroke survivor. Once a week we work on reading and writing activities, but more importantly I am there to listen and be a friend. I have developed a strong relationship with my stroke survivor that has allowed her to trust me and open up about her stroke and other experiences.

This experience has allowed me to strengthen my ability to care and have compassion
