“The first place winner in the Red Angus Lightweight Division winner is DJ!” Is this real, or is this a dream? Standing in the middle of Reliant Stadium speechless was me a 16-year-old kid whose dreams had just become a reality. My hard work throughout the year had finally paid off not only because of the prize that was awarded to me but also because of the fact that the year long debate with my Ag teacher about how bad raising a grass fed show animal could be was finally able to be put to rest. This was a major victory for me due to the significance of being able to raise a healthy show steer; without the use of any hormones, or supplements. This experience taught me that you don’t always have to follow the standard routine in order to be …show more content…
I knew this information based on an economics research project about grass fed cattle, and the profit margin associated with raising this type of cattle. Two years ago I became more involved with Agriculture by joining FFA. I became deeply interested due to my love and passion for money, and Cattle. Not coming from a farm background I thought I wouldn’t have a chance in agriculture; I was proved wrong though because one can easily adapt to a new concept. My close knit relationship with agriculture within the past few years has impacted my life in various ways; throughout many personal experiences, that I have had within the last four to five years. Agriculture has made me think more in depth with how I approach situations; also it has made me think about more things than just dollar signs. The biggest Agricultural Experience without a doubt that had the biggest personal impact on me, would be my decision to Naturally Feed my show cattle. Throughout my time in 4-H and FFA I always wanted to know how could I possibly compete at a level with all of the other experienced competitors that I often times faced, as I traveled

" I believe in the future of agriculture ," these seven powerful words provide an amazing introduction to the FFA Creed . This phrase serves not only as an introduction to the FFA Creed, but also as a basis for my reasoning behind my plan for my part in the future of the cattle industry. As far as knowledge and understanding of the beef industry, I am trying to gain as much experience as I can through opportunities found in organizations and programs ,such as 4-H, FFA, Tennessee Junior Simmental Association, Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program, and the Tennessee Cattlemen's Association,, in order to obtain a benefit on the beef industry in Tennessee. Through 4-H I participate in the Chick-Chain project, and the livestock judging…

I practiced things that I have never done that I did not know existed in the agricultural field. During the summer I had the pleasure to work alongside my grandfather on his farm. My grandfather showed me that there is much more to operating a farm than just doing the labor.…

Over the years farming practices have changed dramatically, and as a result many health complications have emerged. Because of the extreme transformations of agricultural practices, the health of animals, the environment, and more importantly humans have been put at risk. Today’s farming practices include feeding the livestock food they were not intended to eat corn and the remains of other animals. In contrast, farming in the 1700’s typically included animals eating grass (in which they were built to eat), living on an open range farm, and treating the animals with respect. These changes came about due to an increase in demands for meat as well as the desire for more money.…

I've always loved different cultures and tried to surround myself in as many as possible however I could. This was usually me trying to learn on my own from the internet, music and movies, but I was still missing that X factor that really made me indulge in other cultures. As soon as I walked onto Swarthmore's campus I felt that X factor. Sitting in the info session and taking the tour, I truly felt at home. The small diverse campus allows for people of completely different backgrounds and cultures to have real relationships that they might not have even noticed anywhere else in the world.…

I didn't mind that my pant size would get at least two sizes bigger, I wanted to experience life in rural Italy before I died. So fitting in a snug size 7/8 I have now checked that item off my bucket list. There are certain cultures and languages that you just find yourself gravitating towards as a youngin'. For me, it was always French, partially because my last name is Franco and I always thought it was perfect if I became a Franco-phone. At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

Gardening was a ‘forced’ hobby for a good portion of my childhood. Since elementary school, I worked with my dad in our back yard; I would dig holes, carry bags of manure, and plant flowers and trees. I complained that it would be easier to go to the store and buy a bag of blackberries instead of toiling in the sun for hours to achieve the same thing. I never imagined that I’d end up gardening for fun. Every year, my brother and I would collect the fruits of our labor; every year, I’d appreciate my efforts more and more.…
