The Never Ending Rollercoaster As my friends and I pass by store to store we had realized that there was a bright red flyers. It had caught our eye, we went and grabbed a flyer and it had said “Ladies and Gentlemen there is going to be a new rollercoaster opening up this Saturday! Come and join the ride!” My friends had said that they wanted to go and check out the rollercoaster.…
The Big Game It was December 7,2015. I was in Des Moines at a championship game. We played 2 games to warm up. Then went to our championship game up against the Waterloo Hoopers. We started it was 10 to 10.…
My First Shot The air was empty but the pond was full. We sneak through the trees to get to the pond. We get there to realize that the gamble we took didn't pay off. Since we got there about thirty minutes before shoot time we waited. That was the slowest 30 minutes ever.…
My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…
As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
I wrote a book. One, where if it were a movie I would not be old enough to watch it without an adult. No, you can not buy it at Barnes & Nobles or your local bookstore or anywhere books are sold. But I would gladly give you a printed 8 x 11, arial, black and white, 5 font size, unstapled copy in exchange for a Jackson. A little more if you want it signed.…
I gave up. I went to close the book and throw it away but couldn’t. I tried to move my hands, couldn’t. Then I tried to turn my head, couldn’t. Move my eyes, nothing.…
Instead of making me more confident of my decisions as a leader, I began to wonder why nobody could think of any improvements. I knew that I would not always make the right choices and relied on the members for advice. If nobody offered suggestions for improvements, I interpreted it as people not caring enough to participate. Challenges are a valuable way for me to improve both myself and the team as a whole.…
My group member gave constructive feedback in a positive and respectful manner, which has helped us work well together. When I gave constructive feedback to my group member I also tried to be as positive as…
The second person I interviewed was my friend Cody. When he was in high school he worked in a summer camp for boy scouts. The pay for this job wasn’t very good but it was well worth the experience. When Cody turned 18 he wanted to find a good job that paid well so he became a roofer.…
The first thing I noticed was the color. It was faded in one section. The different layers were now becoming visible. The pattern of the couch reminded me of it. I sat in the spot.…
The seven self-assessment quizzes I took were sustainable marriage, parenting style, relationship connectedness, how strong is your relationship, domestic violence, love, lust or a loser, and energy vampires. I was shocked and perplexed with the results of the sustainable marriage, relationship connectedness, and how strong is your relationship. The scores on the sustainable marriage and relationship connectedness were a little low however, I scored very high on how strong is your relationship. I felt as if one of the assessments was low they would all be low instead of 2/3 of them being low. With that being said, there is no doubt my wife and I have a strong relationship.…
Throughout the semester my critical thinking changed like rely on reason rather than emotion, evaluate all reasonable inferences, consider variety of possible viewpoints. I was improved and more focused writer than beginning of the semester. Before that sometimes I felt like my sentences are jumping not connected to each other, but I improved in many areas such as thesis statements, creating well-supported and detailed body paragraphs, conclusion paragraphs, and annotated bibliography. Throughout this semester, I learned how to summarize, paraphrase, and quote particular information in multiple articles, and I feel like I have accomplished effectively using all three elements. I am not a native speaker because of the reason I always facing…
It was a misty morning; the sun was rising up before 5 AM I was struggling to wake up. I could hear a loud noise outside because of my dad was putting equipment in the trailer. My sister and I started get very excited because it was our first time going camping. My dad had finally finished putting things in the trailer, so then we all set off to the gas station to wait for the other families to arrive. There were over 5 families including us that were going camping.…
This assignment really had me reflecting on my life as I grew up until now. I have never done this so it was an interesting time for me to see how my life could be extremely different. Many people are born with life altering situations and pull through life unaffected, and still grow up with support systems as strong as the one I came from. As I put myself in the shoes of someone with a disability I realized life would have been significantly different for me if I were born with a disability such as being born without arms. This activity really opened my eyes and showed me that people will find a way to make life comfortable no matter what situation god gives you.…
