Personal Narrative: My Ready To Recover

Improved Essays
At the beginning of the quarter I didn’t know nearly half of what I know now, I thought literacy was the ability to read, write, and have knowledge of writing. I never would have guessed literacy also means knowledge in a specific area. My writing skills have also came a long ways since the beginning of the quarter. I have written 5 papers including this one, and I’m sure the newest is better than the one before. Overall I am a way better writer now than I was at the beginning of the quarter. I have learned a lot this quarter, including the writing process. Before this quarter I wrote, corrected twice, and turned it in. I have rarely prewritten, or corrected a sufficient amount before. I used to think papers were litter work and super easy. I have realized over the quarter writing is like everything else, only as hard as you make it. Meaning if you put forth tons of effort, and are working on it every chance you get, then yeah it is going to be a lot more challenging than …show more content…
To tell the truth I was even a little confused when writing the paper, and if I was confused I would think my readers were confused with me. Even if they weren’t as confused as me they most likely didn’t get a full understanding because I was attempting to describe myself using shapes! My “Ready to Recover” autobiographical essay taught me a lot about myself. “Ready to Recover” is about when I hurt my knee and had to miss football season. I knew I loved football, but last fall I tried to not think about it as much because when I did I would get mad, and then sad. When writing “Ready to Recover” I realized how important football is to me. My literacy essay taught me a lot about writing considering it was about cultural literacy. Before writing the essay I never even knew the full meaning of literacy. The literacy essay taught me things like the different types of literacy, and the meaning of

“Throwing Down The Gauntlet On My Life” I’m a junior at Presbyterian Pan American School. I was born in Brownsville, Texas, but since my parents are Mexican nationals, I grew up in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2013, my parents told me to “pack your bags” you are going to Kingsville, Texas. I came to Texas three years ago to attend Presbyterian Pan American School (PPAS), a senior private boarding school in Kingsville, Texas, on an academic scholarship. Talking about different aspects of my life is daunting, but it also allows me to come to terms with my growth as an individual by learning from my failures, confronting obstacles such as adapting to new surroundings, and a different educational system, speaking English properly, and adjusting to a real world working environment.…

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. In this class, my writing has advanced because I am reading more, practicing more, and writing more.…

Since starting this class I have noticed how much I write. I tried to participate even when I wasn’t there; for example, I was messaging Garrett argument ideas through Facebook while I as in bed sick. This was one of my favorite classes this semester.…

College Prep Writing Advanced is the hardest class I have ever taken. I learned a lot over the course of this class, and I believe that my approach to writing has changed. I have learned that while writing it is easy to underthink, but it is easier to overthink. I also learned you cannot wait until the last minute to revise and edit essays. The first paper we wrote was the personal essay.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

A lot can happen in just ten short weeks. I feel like I have grown from an amateur writer to a more advanced writer. But do not get me wrong, I know there is still much more room for improvement. The first half of the quarter was focused on the Rhetorical Analysis Essay and the second half was more geared towards the Rhetoric in Practice Project and Essay. At the time, I was just completing these assignments because they were mandatory, but looking back at the quarter I have noticed great improvements and growth not only as a student, but also as a writer.…

Gaining Strength “10/325 hydros, five dollars for two, want a bottle? Ill give you 30 for 45 dollars, I’m desperate for money.” My arms vibrated like a Ford truck on an old dirt road. I found writing to be enjoyable in my youth and even as far as my late teen years. It is common for me to go beyond the writing requirements for the assignments. Of course, this has its downfalls as well. I am constantly learning to stay within the required length of the papers and learn to make better use of my words to get my point across. With my first composition course being taken so long ago, I worry about my writing skills in the present.…

Through out the semester my writing has improved greatly. Through out the first paper I discovered I enjoyed writing about events I’ve attended and giving a rhetorical stance about the things that occur at these events. While the second paper challenged me because of the way I had to think. Putting myself out of my own mind and analyzing why something is how it is had been a challenge because it’s something I haven’t done before.…

I really never liked writing before English 101. In high school my teachers never really had us write a whole bunch of papers. The most papers I had ever written in high school would of been about two papers each year. I hated writing papers in high school, I thought it was torture to have to write any paper no matter if the length of the paper was a page or five pages long. I have grown over the semester because of my thesis statements, Conclusion, and pre-writing/outline.…

What I learned from English Composition I early on was that College English would not be at all like High School. Therefore, I knew going into English Composition II that the expectations would be even greater. As a result, my expectations at the beginning of this class were as expected, challenging. I expected this class to help prepare me to become a successful writer for college as well as for the world of work. What I didn’t expect was to have a collaborative writing assignment with other students, yet it was interesting to combine our writing styles to come up with a unique paper to present.…
