My first memory of reading was probably at about age four when I could actually read a book on my own. I never was a big reader even back then, I would usually just look at the pictures. I remember growing up and going through school I always had to read twenty to thirty minutes for homework. I would always pick simple books with words I knew and probably below my level of reading. I always have felt that I don’t comprehend as well as many people my age, or at least it takes me a lot longer to do so. This was an issue going through school, because I got called on a lot to comprehend something in front of the whole class. It becomes extremely embarrassing when over and over again, you comprehend something wrong or take a long time to comprehend the material.

Although I never seem to get too far into it before I feel like it is a waste of time. I could be out being swimming or playing basketball, doing the things I love. Over the years when I hear about people reading for fun, or that I have to read for school, and so on, my impression is that reading is just a waste of time. It is unfortunate that I feel this way, but I think if we as students were able to read for fun growing up instead of being pressured and quizzed, my feelings towards reading may be more positive.
I wish I had more of a passion for reading, but it is so hard for me to get into a book. A lot of the books I have tried to pick up have a lot of words I don’t know. If I were to read a book, I would read something with suspense. I like books that keep you wondering, but that gives you answers by the end of the book. Books like this have a lot of big words that go hand in hand with law vocabulary. But at the end of the day, I still prefer not to read, if I don’t have
