The pursuit of higher education has been an important part of shaping me as a person and has always held great value to me. When I started college at New York Institute of Technology in the fall of 2007 I was a mix of excited and nervous because I had left my country (Jamaica) to move to the United States to attend college, but I knew that I had so much to learn and was excited for the opportunities that would await me. My freshman year was a great experience and I thrived in my new environment however, due to financial difficulty I was unable to start my sophomore year in 2008. This was very disheartening for me and I wondered if I would be able to complete my degree.
