Personal Narrative: My Pursuit Of Becoming An Effective Leader

Hey Erin! How’s this week been thus far? I’ve been waiting to go back to school for so long. I get excited everyday!

Your experience reminds me of when I first became a supervisor. It’s a challenging transition from being responsible for your own work to being responsible for the work of others. In my pursuit to becoming the best leader I came across a book by John Maxwell entitled “Developing the Leader Within You.” Maxwell starts the book by defining what exactly leadership is. “Leadership is influence” (Maxwell, 1993, p. 129). His teachings through this book really set the foundation for me to become a leader as he talked about the qualities of a leader and developing others.
