Personal Narrative: My Project With Food

Decent Essays
I tried to do most of this project with food I had already in my house because I had just went to the store the day I read the prompt for this project. This proved to be more challenging than I expected. As soon as I read this prompt I went to super tracker and started plugging in meals I could make that I thought would be able to fit the prompt. I had no idea what some of the things I eat regularly had with regards to sodium. A simple meal I would typically have for lunch had way too many calories and sodium to keep me on track for this project. I cut out most of my lunches for a healthier option of salad for both days. Most lunches I will have a sandwich and chips. Cutting out these lunches was the hardest part for me because I did not have any meat during these lunches as I typically do. …show more content…
I started with breakfast, I worked out a meal that would be healthy while filling me up. After deciding that pineapple and avocado toast would be my lunch for both days I decided I could make that on the fly. Lunches and dinners were much harder to get right. With the limited options I had to come up with a few different meals and plug them in to see if they would work. Once I found meals I was content with I prepped as much as I could to help me stay on track. I put my snacks into bags, made salads for lunch, and prepared everything I could for dinners. I found that making things in advance really helped with keeping on

You are also able to put in your recipes, and it will break down the recipe into the individual food groups, and you can see the total calories for that meal. For example, I had two hard boiled eggs for breakfast. I logged the eggs in for my breakfast, and the eggs were put into the protein lists for the day.…

With those good eating habits also comes many bad habits as well, even though they may not all be present throughout these 3 days that were recorded, such as not having enough fat in my diet, skipping meals sometimes, eating snacks from the package, and the biggest one being eating too fast. Some of the ways I could improve my own personal eating habits are by not skipping or delaying any meal of the day because if I ignore my feeling of being hungry I may end up eating too much or choosing an unhealthy quick option. The second way I could improve my eating habits is by putting my snacks on a plate or in a bowl because this could help me out with portion control. I will know exactly how much I am eating rather then sticking my hand into an endless bag where I don’t have any control on how much I am actually eating. The third and final way I could improve my eating habits is by chewing slower, making sure I chew my food at least 20-40 times before swallowing.…

I examined the labels and discovered that cheese curls contain two grams of sugar per serving and 290 milligrams of sodium per serving. Doritos contain one gram of sugar per serving and 180 milligrams of sodium per serving. Most of the ingredients in these snacks are artificial or chemical. I have never thought about what ingredients were in the snacks, or thought about looking at the labels before I eat the food.…
